"Good Morning Mrs. Rhodes" Connor threw his head back on the sofa, looking up to give Ava a Cheshire Cat smile.
"Morning" she leaned over the sofa to kiss his temple. Connor had fallen asleep on the sofa with Ava and Sophia after a sing along to frozen. Ava was sat up on the sofa with her arm around Sophia. Connor lay next to her, with his head next to her belly. Every so often Ava would look down to Connor, her hand in his hair. He had a soft content smile on his as he watched the rise and fall of Ava lightly swollen belly from beneath her shirt.
Ava had left Connor on the sofa to rest and had taken a Sophia to bed."How are you feeling" he asked, picking himself off the sofa. "Any morning sickness, nausea?" Connor came up behind her, wrapping his arms around her to rest them on the bump. "No that's all eased off for now" Ava placed her hands onto of his on her bump.
"My brave girl" he breathed into Ava's neck, taking in her warmth.
"Why do I keep missing your pregnancies" he frowned into her shoulder.
"I promise not the miss the next one, I will be their all the way"
"The next one!?" Ava laughed in shock, turning her head to face him. "This one isn't even out and your thinking about a third?"
"Don't blame me, we just have such cute kids together" he kissed her cheek.
Connor spun Ava around in his arms to face him, "Avey Bekker, my beautiful Fiance. I will have as many or a few babies as you want, so long as we do it together" he pulled her to him for a passontie kiss. "And if I get to name this bump" he said into her lips. Silencing any opposition with a kiss, Connor squeezed her waist playfully. "I love you" Ava sighed softly pulling him back in for a kiss.*
"You seem particularly smiley today" Maggie told her from the nurses station.
"Am I not always a smiley, beacon of positivity, Lockwood?" Ava teased her
"consult in T3" Maggie handed her a tablet. For once it actually a fairly slow day in CT, Ava had been spending so much time in the hospital that she was caught up on all her surgery plans and had reposed to all patient emails. Since the ED was still down a Doctor, and had offered to help out.
Ava pulled on a pair of gloves and breathed her patient, "Hi, I'm Dr. Bekker"
"Hi Doctor, I'm Anne Lynch" her elderly patient replied with a toothy smile.
"So what brings you into us today?"
"Got some check pains in my ticker, you know how it is. I knew I would come, in you know, they always tell you that, to come in for chest pains"
"We do indeed teach that, I'm just going to have a listen to your heart, is that okey?" Ava asked placing her stethoscope down on the women's chest. Ava listen carefully to Mrs. Lynchs heart.
"Dr. Bekker, where are you from if you don't mind me asking?"
Ava pulled her hand back from Anne's chest. "South Africa" Ava said cautiously.
"Ah I knew it, lived their for a few years after I got married. My late husband was South African, I moved back there with him after we were wed, much to the dismay of my parents. But we were happy, me and Jonathon. Who couldn't be in that heat"
"That's very true Mrs. Lynch" Ava smiled, happy about this positive encounter.
"So Mrs. Lynch their is a mummer in your chest that I would like to take a further look at upstairs" Ava told her, standing up.
"Okey Doctor" Mrs. Lynch said, looking Ava up and down.
"Doctor, come down here a moment would you" She nodded, gesturing for Ava to get on her level.
Ava leaned down to Anne's level, "how far along are you?" She whispered to her.
"What" Ava said in shock, knowing her scrub top still covered her swollen belly.
"I was a midwife sweetheart, you get a sixth sense about these kinds of things" Mrs. Lynch winked to her.
Defeated, Ava broke into a smile, "fifteen weeks tomorrow "
Mrs. Lynch slapped Ava's arm playfully, "still got it" she signed.
"So, do you have a ring?" She asked, looking at Ava's hands through her gloves.
Spotting none she continued, "Theirs no issue if you don't, when you get to my age, and have delivered as many babies as me, you see families in all shapes and sizes. Trust me, a ring means nothing when it comes to being a family" she assured her.
"I got engaged last night" Ava admitted, feeling old at ease with this woman.
"At a girl" Mrs. Lynch congratulated her.
"Now Dr.Bekker, I love all my children, I adore each one of them. Make sure to enjoy time with them when their young, but then when your ready get back out there, the medical world needs more women in it" Mrs. Lynch told Ava, shaking her wrist.
"I will Mrs. Lynch. This is my second, with my first I was still operating a week before my due date"
After saying a quick goodbye Mrs. Lynch was sent off upstairs and Ava went into the doctors lounge for a quick snack. "Pregnancy cravings are hitting me hard this time around" Ava chuckled to herself, remembering how with her first pregnancy she had to keep gummy bears in her scrub pockets to keep up with the cravings.
While at her locker Ava opened her small jewellery container that she kept there. Gazing happily down happily at the stone, feeling the cool of it against her fingertips.
Dropping a hand down her stomach, she stoked her belly. "We can't wait to meet you baby"
"Ava" A voiced called her from the doorway. Jumping Ava pulled her hand away from her belly, "Hi Mag's, April"
The girls made their way into the doctors lounge over to Ava. "What's got you in such a peppy mood?" Maggie asked, knowing something was up.
"Nothing, just happy I have Connor back home" Ava brushed it off coolly, closing her locker door.
"Mhm" April hummed, looking at Ava.
"You know not to long ago Dr. Halstead and Dr. Rhodes were always off plotting something when they had a free chance" Maggie told her.
"And they were looking a jewellery catalogues. Yeah, Will Halstead and jewellery" April laughed, knowing those two would never go together.
Ava smirked, knowing where they were going with this; she'd been caught.
"And now you come into work with a jewellery container to protect your jewellery. But you never wear jewellery to work unless it's sentimental" Maggie pointed out
"So" Ava defended, knowing she was caught anyway.
"So, spill girl" April told her."You should join PD, they need your skills" Ava joked rolling her eyes.
"So. Connor proposed last night" Ava beamed, biting her lip.
The two women were ecstatic before her. "Congratulations" they both hugged her tightly.
April, Maggie and Ava had become close since Ava's return, having found friendship in their shared love of gossip.
Ava opened her locker again, taking out the ring to slip it onto her finger and show the girls.
"Oh dam, he really likes you" April said, admiring the ring on Ava's finger.
"Oh, as if one Dr. Rhodes wasn't bad enough" Maggie laughed, tears of joy forming in her eyes.
"Thank you guys" Ava hugged.
"Tell us everything" April said, pulling Ava and Maggie to sit on the sofa.
"It's was late last night, we were talking in our bedroom and Connor was saying how he didn't want to wait any longer to do something. And that he'd been waiting two months, he must have bought the ring before he was shot. It's was just to two of us, it was so sweet and heartfelt" Ava explained, feeling a tear in her eye.
"Oh, we cant wait. Med needs a good wedding" April told her, hugging Ava again, before April's and Maggie's pagers remind them that they were at work. "Incoming girls, T6"
