Ava was two days into a three day hospital recovery from her c-section. Connor came to see her everyday and stayed as late as he could when things were hard. He went home at nights to look after Sophia and Nat would stop by to watch her as well.
"Well if it isn't my beautiful Fiancé" Connor smiled coming into the room with a bag.
"I would dispute the use of beautiful in that sentence. I haven't showered and I've been up for hours and she's only just started feeding" Ava whined, putting her head back on the pillow."Avery" Connor sighed, taking a seat next to her. Connor ran a hand through her tousled hair. "I'm sorry I couldn't be there" he kissed her temple.
"I do have something that might make you feel better" he told her, holding up his bag. Taking out a small food container he opened it to show two slices of avocado toast with tomatoes.
"I practiced making it for you and gave the test to Sophia who spat it out. So I figured played it safe and go to that cafe that you love"
"Thank you, I'll have it when Mel's done nursing" Ava smiled.
"Nonsense, you need to eat Avery" he held out the toast for her.
Ava took a bite from it and Connor wiped the crumbs from the side of her lip.
"You feed her while I feed you"Ava finished her breakfast long before Amelia did, who nurse for nearly two hours. Ava had just finished nursing her when their was a tap at the door.
"Ah Dr. Bekker, good to see your recovering well. I wanted to give my congratulations to yourself and Dr. Rhodes" Dr. Lathem told them.
"Thank you Dr. Lathem" Connor nodded.
Ava tilted her arms out so he could see Mel's face.
"This is baby Amelia"
Dr. Lathem smiled down at the baby, taking her hand between his two fingers he shook it.
"It's a pleasure to meet you Amelia. I know you'll live to do great things like your parents" Doctor Lathem nodded to the doctors before returning to his rounds.Ava handed a now asleep Amelia off to Connor who settled her into her hospital crib.
Just as Ava was settling back in she heard some frantic movements outside her room.
"Their you two are" Sharron greeted them.
"Three, sorry" she came over to Ava's bedside.
"What are you doing back here so soon?" Ava asked.
"Oh that conference was useless, the same argument that we should have metal detectors at the doors, nothing new"
Ava smiled and nodded to the crib.
Sharron gasped at the sight, "Oh she's precious"
"Amelia Bekker-Rhodes" Sharron read off the name tag.
"I'm sorry I couldn't be there. Who took Sophia?"
"Hank did actually"
"Hank?" Sharron said in surprise.
"Mhm, they played princess tea party" Ava smiled gleefully.
"Well I'm sorry I missed that" Sharron laughs.
"I should get going, I leave for two days and the hospital nearly falls apart. Take care of yourselves" Sharron waves as she leaves to room. With Amelia having fallen into a deep sleep Connor and Ava couldn't make much noise. Smiling to him Ava pulled back the covers back, sitting up the way she was shown to so she wouldn't burst a stitch. Connor stood up, taking her hands he helped her stand. Wrapping an arm around her waist he helped her shuffle into the en-suite bathroom. Ava used the bathroom and Connor handed her in a fresh pad. Connor helped her back to bed, sitting next to her in bed and pulled the blanket up to cover her. Going through her bag Connor pulled out her hairbrush, untying her hair from its bun he ran the brush through it, kissing her curls and temple as he went. Ava caught his free hand as he ran it through her now tangle free hair, taking it in her hand she kissed the tips of each of his fingers before bring his lips to hers. They left their foreheads touching, looking into each others eyes they smiled softly. Connor kissed Ava's forehead before bring her head to his shoulder.
When Ava woke again in was mid afternoon and she was alone in her bed. Connor was stood next to Amelias cribs, shushing her and she cried.
"She'll want a feeding" she muttered, sitting us as best she can.
Connor handed their little happiness over to Ava who opened her robe to feel Amelia. She only nursed for twenty minutes before Ava burped her, still Amelia didn't want to sleep.
"She just wants a snuggle" Ava told Connor who had returned to his chair at her bedside. Connor smiled to Ava, his eyes shifted away to the door as his face hardened.
Ava turned her head to look to the door way. The women was well bungled up from the Chicago winter. Connor stood up suddenly but Ava caught his wrist."Claire" she gave her a friendly smile.
"Do you want to meet your niece?"
Claire pursed her lips and nodded, entering the room with little clacks of her high heels. She draped her coat over the back of a chair and sat down. Connor watched her like a hawk from the foot of Ava's bed.
Ava tightened the blanket around her daughter before passing her carefully over to Claire.
Claire took her in her arms, holding her breath as she looked down at her niece.
"Aren't you a cutie" she giggled, stroking the babies cheek.
"Her names Amelia. Amelia Elizabeth Bekker-Rhodes" Connor says softening his gaze at his sister. Claire glanced up at him, smiling at the inclusion of their late mother's name.
Claire's eyes started to water as she looked down at the infant.
Claire handed the baby back to Ava reluctantly, "She's beautiful" Claire whipped her eye.
Ava gestured for Connor to take Amelia, "Come here" she motioned for Claire to come closer.
Ava wrapped her arms around Claire, pulling her into her as she sniffled into Ava's shoulder. Ava put a hand on Claire's head, catching Connors eye. She smiled to him over Claire's shoulder, it took a moment but Connors face soften into a smile with his daughter in his arms. If Ava could forgive Claire then so could he.A/n: I forgot to say it but don't forgot to check out my other books, they'll be continuing on after "Mistakes of our pasts" is finished ❤️
