"You have Instagram?!" Lily asks in shock.
Lizzie looks up from her phone to see Lily looking over her shoulder. She gives her a smirk and says, "How else would I keep tabs on what you post?" as she double taps the photo making a red heart pop up, 'liking' the photo.
With a scowl, Lily takes her phone from Ellis and checks her notifications to see the most recent notification, which is already pushed down quite a bit from more and more people liking and commenting on the new post.
A user without a picture with the name 'LRowan1Fan' liked the photo seconds ago.
"Is this you??" Lily exclaims as she flips the phone around for Lizzie to see. She isn't mad but rather bewildered that she didn't know about it.
Lizzie shrugs but her smug smile gives her away.
"You cheeky woman," Lily says almost like a compliment. "How are my posts, my number one fan?"
"It's hard not to like when the subject is perfect," Lizzie states.
"Can you be any more cheesy?" Lily giggles, pulling Lizzie in by the waist so they are closer. "You should have told me."
Lizzie shrugs. "I only use it to like your posts and occasionally look at your stories. I don't do anything else with it."
"You can follow, like, or comment on anyone's post," Lily says with a shake of her head ensuring Lizzie didn't take it the wrong way. There's nothing wrong with Lizzie having social media; she just didn't know. She felt a little cheated but also flattered that Lizzie made one just for her.
"You're the only one I'm interested in," Lizzie responds, which earns a cheeky grin from the younger woman.
But once their little conversation dies down, the nervousness and anxiousness sets in. The post is officially published and that means the news of the two of them are out.
Lizzie reaches over and grabs Lily's hand, squeezing it for comfort and Lily offers a small smile to her, communicating all the love and support she offers despite her own worries.
"I'll monitor the reaction of the post and the media coverage," Ellis tells them both, trying to reassure them with her words and kind eyes. "You two take it easy and let the initial uproar settle. I'll let you know if there's anything you need to know."
Lily thanks her and Ellis nods, leaving the apartment so that the two of them can have privacy in this uncertain time.
They sit in silence for a long time without speaking. Lizzie cuddled up against Lily, resting her head on her shoulder and focused on their hands held on her lap. Lily brushed her thumb over Lizzie's knuckles and they occasionally squeezed each other's hands to tell the other that they were there for each other.
But it was a daunting time. Neither one of them wanted to look at the reaction from the post out of fear of what they would see, but they were also dying to know how people felt. Was it a positive reaction or a negative one? Could they be open with their relationship or will they still have to hide their affection with one another to not cause more publicity? What did people think about Elizabeth Olsen being with a woman now? A co-star, nonetheless.
"Hey," Lily says, bringing Lizzie out of her thoughts. "Let's do something. Just us."
"What do you have in mind?"
Lily smiles her iconic crooked smile. "Since when do I tell you my plans?"
. . .
Lizzie tapped her fingers nervously on the side door panel, itching to check her phone while Lily drove them onto the busy highway. It's one of the reasons she never liked social media – she didn't like how it made her feel and felt like it wired her brain to think differently. She worried about what people thought when she shouldn't care. She worried about how to respond to people or express her thoughts when people didn't need to know.
