"This isn't right!" Lily exclaims.
"Baby, it's fine," Lizzie says in a soothing tone.
"It's not fine," Lily snaps. "It's the wrong color. It's supposed to be white. Not off white. I asked for pristine white white, not this. This is practically tan!"
As it turns out, Lily became more of a bridezilla than Lizzie. Towards the end of the year, Lily finished with filming and had more time to focus on the wedding. She dialed in and focused everything she had into all the details. Their wedding had to be perfect. It just had to.
"Baby," Lizzie says, rubbing her hands on Lily's shoulders and then hugging her from the side. She kisses Lily's neck where she could reach and whispers sweet nothings to calm her down. "It's just ribbons. It's going to be tied to the chairs – no one will notice."
"People will notice," Lily says. "People sit on chairs and everyone besides the front row will see them. People get bored at weddings, you know? They look at things. Things like the ribbons!"
"No one is going to care if it's off white and not white."
"I'm going to call them and complain. I want a refund," Lily says, ignoring Lizzie. She grabs her phone and starts scanning the contacts. She stomps her foot and growls when she can't find the right place. They went to so many different places and got so many quotes that they were all blending together.
"Baby," Lizzie coos, coming up behind Lily and gently taking the phone out of her hands. "It's okay. I'll call them and get it fixed. Okay?"
Lily sighs, feeling the stress slip away with Lizzie's words and her soft touch. "Okay," she nods, feeling calmer. "I'm sorry."
"Don't be sorry," Lizzie says softly. "I know you just want everything to be perfect for our day."
"I want it to be perfect for you," Lily says. When Lizzie cocks an eyebrow at her, she looks away and mutters, "and me. For us."
"It's sweet, but not everything has to be done right away. We still have half a year."
They had spent Halloween at Lizzie's parent's place, Thanksgiving with Lily's family, then Lily's birthday in Paris and then Christmas back at Lizzie's families in New York. They had done a lot of traveling and put the wedding planning on hold. So when they came back, Lily started frantically getting everything back in line, feeling as though time was running out.
"We still need to pick out a venue," Lily reminds her. "And I haven't chosen a dress. We still need to get a cake and a DJ and –"
"Sh," Lizzie coos, calming Lily down by rubbing her back. "We'll get everything done. We're literally going to scout some venues now. So don't worry about the ribbons and enjoy this time, okay?"
"We need to find the best venue," Lily states with determination.
"We will," Lizzie says. "One that's perfect for us and no one else."
So they went to their first appointment. It was a hotel in the middle of LA. They could hold the reception, do the ceremony, and hold the party all in one place. It was budget friendly and a nice venue. But it wasn't what they wanted.
They had five appointments in total. One in LA, one outside of LA, one in San Diego, one in Irvine, and then one close to their new home by Long Beach. They looked at a few venues before the holidays but none stuck out to them. Just like Lily's dress, none were the one.
The venue outside of LA was nice. They would have the reception on the roof where they had a beautiful view of the city and the ocean. But something about standing on the roof as cold wind blew their hair around wasn't something they enjoyed.
