The hostess takes Lily and Liz to their seats. It is closer to the back and slightly secluded from the rest of the guests.
"When did you get a reservation?" Liz asks, pulling her seat closer to the table.
"I was going to come here for my date," she answers. Lily notices Liz's confused face and realizes her mistake. "Oh sorry. Is that weird?"
"No, I just didn't know."
"I was supposed to go on this date with a girl today," Lily explains. "We were going to grab lunch here but I told her it would have to be lunch only. We wouldn't be able to hang out after because I had other plans."
"Plans. . .with me? I asked you to meet up to talk about London," Liz says in realization.
Lily waves her hand, dismissing her words. "Not just that. I also have to pack. I told her I had to go to London for a reshoot and my flight is tomorrow. But she didn't believe me so she blew me off."
"I'm sorry to hear that," Lis says with a frown.
"I'm not," Lily says with a 'pfft'. "I wouldn't want to be with someone who – one, doesn't believe me and two, can't understand my perspective and position with my occupation. And besides, I still get to have a nice lunch with a pretty lady who, by the way, is much better company."
"I'll take the compliment," Liz replies, feeling her cheeks warm at Lily's kind words.
"I didn't want the reservation to go to waste either so I thought we could come together. Promise me this isn't weird?"
"I promise, this isn't weird," Liz assures her. She's actually quite glad about the mishap. "Situation is a bit odd but I'm glad to be able to have lunch with you too."
Everything started to click into place. Liz now understood the weird change in plans in the texts, Lily's dress to impress outfit, and the reservation. For Lily, she found herself a little bit relieved, but also pleasantly surprised. Elizabeth never fails to surprise her at how open minded she is.
The waiter starts them off with a glass of water while he hands them the menu and the two women glance over it.
"I really like the spicy shoyu ramen," Lily tells Liz. "It's not too spicy but it gives a little kick to the regular shoyu. If you can't handle any spice, their signature is really popular."
Liz nods, her eyes flicking from her menu to Lily and back down again. She appreciates the attention and care that Lily is giving her. For a moment, just a split second, Liz lets herself imagine that she is on a date with Lily. Is this how she would treat someone she likes?
She dismisses the thought. Lily is always nice. It didn't matter who it was.
Elizabeth's phone buzzes once. Then again. And again. She tries to ignore it but she knows the only people that would be texting her are Chris and Scarlett. Once they place their orders with the waiter, she excuses herself and leaves the table, hiding in the single use restroom while she checks her phone.
