In which Ashtem has found a new perfect candidate for the Requiem Project, but before this Blader can partake in that project, he must first undergo an operation to awaken the Beast Within... And this time, there will be no foul-ups. (Canon continuation of The Beast Within.)
-----
"Red Eye, you're the epitome of what I'm looking for in this project," Ashtem declares. My brow furrows and I cross my arms over my chest, asking,
"Sir? Do you mean... In the Requiem Project?" He told me that it would help me to create the ultimate Bey- one powerful enough to defeat my every enemy.
"Yes, of course. And I mean in the Beast Within Project- a stepping stone to the Requiem Project and an absolute must for any Blader who truly wants to be the strongest."
"You did allude to its existence before, I recall. You said that before I could complete the Requiem Project, I had to prove that I deserved the right to. I assume you meant by going through the Beast Within Project?"
"Very good, Red Eye," He hums, smirking with satisfaction.
"What is it, exactly?"
"Why, the name is self-explanatory. It's a project meant to draw out the wild instincts that exist inside every Blader. The beast within is brought to the surface and its instincts are channeled into every aspect of that Blader's life, making them their most powerful self."
"Interesting," I murmur, taken a bit aback by this odd train of thought. "So, you believe that Bladers are like wild animals, deep down?"
"I know they are. Even you, though you and all others have had to hide your instincts from everyone, including yourselves."
Uncertainly, I look myself over, wondering what it is he sees in me that gave him such an idea. "How come, sir?"
"Because society abhors your inner beast, that's why," He scoffs, steepling his fingers over his desk. "Every Blader is made to force down their instincts and conform to the rest of humanity. And for many, even a few years of suppression is more than enough to completely erase their new power."
"But since I've only been Blading for a year and a few months, there's still time for me?" I ask slowly, even though I can't quite bring myself to believe this strange theory- especially from Ashtem of all people. He can't be serious, can he?
He nods in answer, smirking. "Yes, exactly. Not to mention, all beast Bladers have a far better chance of reigniting the spark that is their instincts." I honestly can't think of what to say in response. I think he realizes that I'm dubious of this, because his smirk quickly falls and is replaced by a deep scowl. "Red Eye, this is no fairy tale I've conjured. I've put years of research and study into this project, and I've even successfully recovered another beast Blader's instincts in recent months."
"What Blader, sir?"
Ashtem chuckles quietly. "What, haven't you heard already? Silver Eye, the most powerful Blader in the whole Snake Pit." He grins almost like the Cheshire Cat when I perk up, definitely recognizing the alias. "So you have. But really, how could you not? He's the alpha of the Masked Bladers and the very first success of the Beast Within Project."
Yeah, I've definitely heard of Silver Eye, but not for the reasons your claiming. The trainees all call him the Phantom Blader because no one has seen him in months. Only the other Masked Bladers know how to find him, but they refuse to indulge anyone on information regarding his status. Thoughtfully, I raise one hand to cradle my chin. Whenever Silver Eye's name is even alluded to, all his fellow Masked Bladers become... Melancholy. And maybe even angry. Especially Gold Eye.
