In which Zac the Sunrise is out in the rainy evening and finds someone in need of help... And in need of comfort, and an ear to hear their troubles. (Cynophobia Shu headcanon. Set after the end of Evolution, when Valt and the others are still gone.)

Kra-ka-BOOM!

The storm grumbles and cries, its tears raining down on the world below, the world cloaked in gloom and darkness from the gray clouds hiding the sun. However, the sun shall not remain hidden forever, it will recharge its energy and reappear, bathing the world in its warm glow and drying away the tears that remain.

... Damn, I'm poetic. Ooooh, maybe I could use that for song lyrics! I need to write that down before I forget.

I pull out my phone, opening the notepad and jotting down that little internal monologue as I continue to walk. Okay, now let's keep it going... I listen to the storm, glancing around to absorb the sights and make sure I don't run into anything.

I'm within the shelter of my little umbrella, looking out on the strange, soggy world and listening to the storm's cry, seeing the droplets break on the city concrete. I listen to the weather's song of sorrow and feel its mourning. Who has left you, I wonder? Was it your love, the sun?

Never fear, my love, I have not left you. I have vanished, but my love for you has n-

At that moment I hear a fearful cry and slow to a stop, my gaze whipping around to find the source. Not too long after I hear barking- mean, angry barking from a dog that is definitely big.

Oh, boy, I better go help! I put my phone away, turning and running down the street to my left. "Hang on, I'm coming!" I call, hearing a familiar voice call back.

"P-Please help! Whoa- g-go away, you m-mutt!"

I reach the source of the yelling, which is indeed a big mean dog attacking someone who can't defend themselves. It barks and snarls and lunges at its target, ropes of drool forming from its maw full of sharp teeth and splattering to the ground.

The boy it's chasing is constantly dodging, shouting profanity at it at some points. I only watch for a second before I jump to the rescue, closing my umbrella and jumping between the two. I hit the dog in the face as it lunges, then watch as it backs away.

"Get outta here, you! Go!" It barks at me- though it doesn't sound so aggressive... Regardless, I wave the umbrella threateningly. "Get lost, I mean it!"

It huffs, turning and running away. I lift my umbrella again and open it up, turning to who I saved and falling silent for a moment.

"... Shu..."

He smiles up at me, but he can't muster anything to say. I take a moment to look him over, frowning a little more. He's soaked to the bone with rain and shivering uncontrollably, but somehow I have a feeling his shaking is caused by more than just the slight cold of the rain.

Maybe that's because he's been crying. How can I tell, you ask? Easy... His eyes are red and puffy, glistening with more tears and definite terror.

"Oh, star, are you okay?!" I pull him into my arms, hearing him let out a squeak of surprise. "Oh, you're freezing- here!" I pull off my faux-fur jacket and drape it around Shu- who is not dressed for the late fall weather- then I pull him back into my arms. "I haven't seen you in ages! But, um, that's mostly my fault. I was going to talk to you when we got back to Japan after the God's Cup, but then a tour popped up and I completely forgot."

"T-That's okay, Z-Zac." Shu replies, slowly wrapping his arms around me in return. "I've n-never been so h-h-happy to see you." The poor thing's voice is broken, too. "Thank y-you for s-saving me..."
