In which Shu has to deal with the others knowing about his scavenger hunt and his lies, as well as a new development in the Merged Realities, in addition to the truth about the evidence he's gathered. (Set after the events of Try to Wake, Try to Escape, but it's not canon to the story. Inspired by Fran Bow.)

Shu did his best to wait patiently as he sat in the police station, but it was nearly impossible to do when his mind was racing with a desire to hear the results. He was worried that it would turn out that Ashtem had an insider who tampered with the evidence, or that they were dismissing it because they had better things to do, or that someone put a statue of limitations on murder.
That last one was very unlikely, but Shu was incredibly paranoid at this rate. He just wanted this ordeal to end so he could work on mending the trust he broke with his friends.
Yeah, John had told Rantaro everything he knew... Then Rantaro gathered the others and told them. Shu didn't know until the next day, when he went to train with the others and Wakiya punched him in the jaw. Then the blond proceeded to yell profanity at him in Spanish, and Shu could do nothing but take it, because he knew he deserved it.
Wakiya and Daigo were mad. Shu didn't blame them. Rantaro was a mix of upset and worried. Ken and Valt were just worried, but since Ken was still living in a different town only the latter could do anything about it.
And what Valt chose to do was support Shu as best he could. Shu wished Valt would be mad instead, so Shu could do this himself and not involve his best friend, but he was also glad that the Valkyrie Blader was having mercy on him...
He wasn't forgiven yet, of course. He didn't think any of them would forgive him for lying to them about everything in the past few weeks. It was a straight-up miracle Daigo and Wakiya were even still his friends, honestly...
Shu was bouncing his right leg as he thought of all this, growing more impatient with each passing second. He had so much on his mind it felt like his brain was going to melt...
Oh yeah, he still had the nano-tech in his head, too. So that was literally on his mind.
"Shu..." Valt whispered, reaching over and holding the red-eyed Blader's leg still. "It's going to be okay."
"I hope so..."
"It will be. Trust me." Shu looked to Valt, then he looked to the dragon sitting nearby, and he nodded nervously. Valt smiled a little, then they both looked to the officers entering the room. John was with them, his dragon trudging along behind the trio of officers.
Shu sat up straight, waiting intently. John and the other two officers exchanged glances, then John stood in front of the two. "Well... The good news is that the items you brought in are in fact real pieces of evidence. There are a lot of unresolved cases that can be closed for good, and a lot of families will be given closure, but..." He trailed off, biting his lip nervously.
"But?..." Shu prompted, his stomach churning at the officer's uneasy posture.
John took a deep breath, forcing himself to meet Shu's gaze. "But none of the evidence you brought in has any DNA from Theodore Glass on it, Shu."
"What?!" Shu yelped, quickly pushing himself to his feet. "What do you mean it doesn't have any of Theodore's DNA? My source said-"
"Your source either lied, or he's just as confused as you are." One of the other officers chimed in harshly. The woman standing beside him gave his arm a smack. Shu looked to John, eyebrows knit together as he waited for further explanation.
