In which school still sucks for Lui and Shu, and they still have to make up their minds on whether or not they're friends or enemies. (Lui x Yandere Shu. Slow burn. Five years after Evolution.)
-----
The next morning...
"Good morning, Shu!"
"Good morning, Makoto." That's still painful for me to say.
"You'll be relieved to know that I've gotten you a desk and a seat! It's right over there, so go ahead and take a seat."
"Thank you." I sit down at the desk, feeling some of the tension fade now that I know I don't have to sit on the desk anymore.
Lui's gonna be happy, too. I nearly jump at the unexpected thought, then I spend the whole lecture wondering why I would care. The answer is the same as yesterday- I'm desperate for familiar company, and apparently I'm willing to find it wherever I can.
Science goes by in a flash, and before I know it I'm in history again, sat right next to Lui. We don't even make eye contact throughout the lecture, and it's kind of worrying me. I couldn't have possibly hurt his feelings, could I? Again, I wonder why I should care. This time around, the answer is different. Because I don't revel in hurting people. Not anymore.
After class and a long debate, I decide to flag him down. "Lui?"
"What do you want?" He snaps, turning to me with an aggravated expression. I fidget awkwardly, unsure of how to ask Lui Shirosagi of all people if I hurt his feelings... "Kurenai, we gotta get to class." He huffs curtly and turns away, beginning to leave.
So don't ask, just get to the point before you lose him! "I- I'm sorry about yesterday."
He stops, turning back to me. "Huh?"
"Yesterday, I just stared at you, and you got mad, remember?"
He scowls at me. "Why would I still care about that? You're my rival, Shu, my enemy. I don't care what you do, and I certainly don't care about yesterday."
Enemies again. I nod, letting my expression harden. "Alright, then. Fine."
When we arrive in Japanese class we sit down in the seats we had yesterday. The students on our sides still avoid us, and as the class goes on they whisper and whisper.
"Did you see that little episode out in the hall?"
"Yeah. Those two are so weird."
"Enemies one minute, friends the next."
"Can't they make up their minds?"
"Sharkface probably doesn't know how to make friends," Someone at the table behind us whispers. Lui turns to them, glaring harshly with glowing eyes. That shuts that gossiper up.
After that Mister Mokusei starts catching when the students are whispering, and by the end of the lecture he's sent over half of the class to detention.
"I think it should've been you, Red Eyes."
I flinch at how close that nickname comes, then narrow my eyes at the boy who spoke- the one who was rude to me yesterday. "Why me? I've been doing nothing wrong."
"You and your frenemy are distracting everyone else, that's why. And you deserve it more."
"Says the one who has his feet on the table. And I'm not the one who said you had to be rude to me and get scolded by Mister Mokusei."
He growls, glaring at me. "Oh yeah?"
"Yes." He opens his mouth to say something, then the bell rings. I stand, grabbing my bag. "You made the choice on your own, Erizaki, and you had to face the consequences."
