In which Theodore and Norman find out about Red Eye's little feline condition. (Mew Purrenai AU. Norman, Theodore and Red Eye are all probably going to be OOC, sorry...)

-----

Of all the times this could spring up again. I sigh, pinning my back my cat ears. Nothing can really be done about it, I suppose.

"You don't seem too disturbed by the sudden appearance of these feline features," Spryzen's voice rumbles in my head. "Why is that?"

It's become a normal occurrence for me, really. It used to happen on a monthly basis, but when you were created, it went away for a while. I let my tail flick and lift my ears. Now that we are one, I suppose it's coming back.

"I see. That's, er, interesting. How shall we hide this from that fool Ashtem and his follower?"

We'll manage. I've found that the most difficult part of it is hiding the ears.

Unfortunately, it's at this moment that Ashtem decides to walk into the room, and in the reflection of the mirror I can see the look of confusion on his face.

"Red Eye, perhaps I'm wrong, but it seems there's something different about you. Ah, it must be the ears and the tail."

"I think you're seeing things," I huff gruffly, turning to face him and flattening my ears against my head. As I thought, he doesn't look convinced.

"I mean no offense, of course. I'm simply curious." He comes closer, a little too close, and he even has the gall to tug on one of my ears to look at it.

I hiss at him, baring my teeth. "Don't do that again."

"Then don't lie to me," He retorts calmly. I growl, and unfortunately it's that little cat growl that even I don't find intimidating. "So? How did this happen?"

I go and sit down on the bench, crossing my arms. I may as well humor him so he doesn't tug on my ear again. "I don't know what causes it. Just that it's normal for me."

He lifts an eyebrow. "Normal, hmm? What on earth makes it so?"

"It was frequent before I joined the Snake Pit," I answer. "It would usually happen on a monthly basis, then it lasted a week or so before it went away."

"So every month you become... A cat?" He scrunches up his nose, but I can't really tell what he's thinking of. He shakes his head dismissively and steps closer, but this time he doesn't dare wander too close. "And it lasts just a week?"

I nod. "But sometimes it does last longer."

"How come?"

I growl again, growing weary of Ashtem's questions. "The ears and tail come with instincts. The more of them I obey, the sooner my time as a feline ends."

"I see. That's quite an interesting development for a young man such as-" I pin my ears back and hiss at him, tired of the pointless talk. Ashtem just lifts both of his eyebrows, humming softly, "Very well, then."

Not very long after, Gold Eye returns from his match and Ashtem explains the situation to him. "So you just become a cat for no real reason?" He asks and I nod, gazing at the mirror at the far wall. "How do you usually go about following your instincts, then?"

(Theodore) Red Eye looks away from the mirror and looks to the wall away from Norman and I. If I didn't know any better, I could almost say he was embarrassed. "I would just mess around with some cat toys, mostly. For now, I'll just find an alternative method."

Norman pulls my phone out of my pocket, turning it on and searching for something as Red Eye goes on. "Something so juvenile wouldn't be fitting for the wielder of the Requiem, after all. It's absu-"

Norman clicks off the light and holds the screen out, and to my surprise it projects a little red dot onto the wall. Red Eye trails off, but his ears prick up and his tail straightens out, the hairs standing on end.

He doesn't even turn to glare at Norman, instead watching the dot with an intense look on his face. Truly, the look of a cat seeing a Christmas tree for the first time.

I watch as Norman puts one hand on his side, directing the light with the other. It dashes from spot to spot, and it seems Red Eye's will to look mature is deteriorating.

"Mrrrrrrrr..." His tail flicks, then without warning he lunges for the light. It moves away from him and he continues to chase it without shame, and even goes so far as to hop up and down when Norman moves it just a bit too far from his reach. "Yooooowwwwrrr! Rrrowr!"

The light moves to the right corner at the bottom of the mirror and Red Eye crouches, poised to lunge. "MrrrrRRROWR!"

He lunges at it faster than either of us expected and...

He crashes face-first into the mirror. And falls unconscious.

We both stare in shock for a moment before I glance at Norman, frowning and crossing my arms when I see he's covering his mouth to suppress some laughter. "Pfft, did you see that? That-" He looks to me and falls silent, then clears his throat. "Ah, I mean, g- good thing he didn't have any matches today."

"Indeed," I sigh, letting my arms drop. "I'll take care of him, for now." I go over to Red Eye, lifting him up and checking him for any injuries- aside from the cuts on his nose. I think most of the damage was done to the mirror, since it has cracks spiderwebbed along the bottom corner now.

"So much for being the strongest Blader in the Snake Pit," Norman snickers, then looks away when I glare at him.
