In which one of the Supreme Four invites someone else on a date. (Lowkey Lui x Shu vibes.)
-----
Two young Bladers sat together in a park, one simply eating the grapes he was offered while the other shifted quietly, uncomfortable with the silence and smiling like an idiot to try and alleviate the heavy tension between them.
Who were these two Bladers? Well, there wasn't a person alive who didn't know of the heated rivalry between the two. After all, the latter had scarred, insulted and humiliated the former on several occasions.
So why did he invite the Blader he always went out of his way to hurt to this quaint evening dinner? Well, that's for him to know.
It had taken seven minutes to get him to sit down, and it had taken eleven more to actually get him to eat, like he had assumed the blue-haired Blader poisoned the food. And so far, it was taking him fifteen minutes to to talk. Honestly, Lui Shirosagi hadn't expected the other to fall to his knees and kiss Lui's feet, but I was hoping he'd be a little more open...
The minutes dragged by, silent aside from the sound of the beast Blader biting into the red grapes- one of his favorites, according to Lui's 100% accurate, not-to-be-questioned source. Soon Lui had to give the smiling a rest, rubbing his sore cheeks. He was beginning to lose hope, and was seriously considering standing up and leaving when the beast Blader finally spoke.
Shu Kurenai picked up another grape, studying it for a moment before his crimson eyes locked onto Lui's, holding the dragon Blader in place. "So... This is nice."
Well, it's not much, but it's a start... Lui forced another smile, replying. "I'm glad you think so."
There was a bit of silence, spanning the amount of time it took Shu to finish the grape. "But what is this for? What are you planning?"
"I'm not planning anything." Lui defended, dreading his upcoming explanation.
"Then why am I here?"
"Because I thought..." Oh Gods, here it comes. "I thought we could have some time to... E-Enjoy each others' company."
He knew that was a long shot. Shu hated Lui to hell and back, and no evening dinner with grapes, pasta and bread sticks could change that. And Lui knew that was his own fault, and he remembered it every time he looked at Shu's right eye. And every time he lashed out at Shu even though he really just wanted to be friends with the red-eyed Blader.
Darn my own emotional ineptitude. He blamed it on his parents, really. They were supposed to stay at home and teach him these things while he was still young, then run off to save the world when he was twenty. Not when he was twelve.
A-Anyway, back to the present... The statement obviously hadn't been what Shu expected, and the beast Blader's eyebrows raised slightly. He seemed to replay the statement in his mind, weighing its truth and evaluating the ulterior meaning until he was satisfied.
After that, he simply picked up another grape, sighing softly and muttering. "Okay, we'll play house, then."
Lui let out a soft breath of his own, subtly wiping the sweat from his brow. Not much, but it's still a good start. At least he hasn't run off screaming.
Shu picked up the wine glass filled with grape juice, studied it for a moment to make sure it wasn't wine, then took a sip. Grape juice was another favorite of his, according to Lui's 100% accurate, not-to-be-questioned source.
Shu was still kind of fixated on the grapes, plucking another one off the vine and biting into it. When he finished it he looked back to Lui, asking. "So where did you buy these?"
"The farmer's market on the south side of town. You like them that much?"
"Yes." He replied simply, eating another grape. Lui temporarily wondered if actually playing 'house' would be less awkward. Shu spent a moment studying the other foods- which were other favorites of his- thoughtfully chewing on yet another grape. "I'm guessing you made this sort of meal based off Olive Garden?"
"Kind of."
"I never really took you for someone to like bread sticks or grapes..." Shu looked to Lui, who shrugged a shoulder.
"I'm indifferent to them. I was picking what you would like."
Shu's brow furrowed. Ooooh Gods bad phrasing bad phrasing oh SHI- "I-I thought you might like it... You just seem like a 'grapes and bread sticks' Blader."
"Uh... Huh..." He cleaned his hands of any excess juices with a nearby napkin before he placed them in his lap, seemingly trying to avoid blemishing his clothes- which weren't his regular ones. Lui had put in his secret letter that Shu should dress nicely. He found himself wondering if the beast Blader would have listened, had he known who sent the letter.
"You must have a sixth sense or something, then. These are all kind of my favorite foods." He reached up, taking a sip of the grape juice. "And drinks..."
Lui couldn't help but straighten up and crossed his arms somewhat proudly, even though he knew he didn't figure this out on his own. He had a 100% accurate, not-to-be-questioned source tell him all this.
"Yeah, I'm pretty good." He glanced back at Shu just as the red-eyed Blader was finishing rolling his eyes.
"Sure, sure. But, uh, I know you're lying."
WHAT THE HECK. Lui slowly uncrossed his arms. "Okay..." Shu's much sharper than I remember...
"So have you been spying on me?" Shu questioned, picking up his wine glass and sipping from it quaintly.
"No, of course not!" Lui huffed, raising a hand as he sighed. "I got Valt to tell me all this okay?"
Lui jumped when Shu started coughing and hacking loudly, covering his mouth with his hand. A couple minutes passed, the coughing turning into loud, hollow wheezing as Shu tried to recover from choking on the juice. Lui wasn't sure if he should get up and help or stay put. The former probably would be more considerate, but would Shu even let him? He wouldn't even sit down until Lui moved away from the chair he pulled out.
Deciding it was better to try than to do nothing, Lui started to get up, but Shu held up his hand to halt him, the coughing fit slowly dying as he did. When he could breathe again, the beast Blader cleaned off his hands and leaned back in his seat with his eyes shut, breathing raggedly.
A few minutes passed, then Shu straightened up and raked a hand through his hair, asking. "You got Valt to tell you all this?"
"Yeees..." Lui murmured. It had been relatively easy to get the Valkyrie Blader to talk, too. Lui just told him that he was going to make amends with Shu through a nice dinner, spent a few minutes being nice to Valt, then bingo. Valt was nice enough to tell him a few of Shu's favorite foods. And his locker number, so he could give him the letter.
It was pretty lucky that Lui managed to find Valt Beyblading in the park by chance. Yep. Just fate. No intentionally waiting for the Blader to pop up and approaching him. It was totally unplanned.
Shu, at the moment, looked as though he were warding off a bright light. "Unnngh... Valt Aoi, you are in so much trouble..." The beast Blader muttered, so softly Lui almost missed it. Shu lowered his hands again, shaking his head gently. "Sorry about that."
Lui blinked at the unexpected apology, a smile working its way to his lips. "It's fine... So... Uh... Can I get you some pasta carbonara?"
"... Sure..." He shrugged, seeming to decide that it was easier to go along with this. Whatever this was...
Lui served Shu some of the pasta, smiling triumphantly when he heard the beast Blader's polite 'thank you' and serving himself. Valt didn't know the recipe Shu used, so Lui had to look up something similar online. Shu took a tentative first bite, chewing on the pasta for a few minutes and swallowing.
"This is really good."
"Thanks."
