In which Red Eye's time as a cat continues. (Mew Purrenai AU. OOC Norman, Theodore, Spryzen and Red Eye, probably.)
-----
"The Requiem's power is growing, Red Eye." He nods, his tail swaying back and forth. "It pleases me that you've learned to control it so well."
"Hmph."
"You may rest, now. Spend your energy wisely, or you'll burn yourself out."
"Very well, then," Red Eye replies. He tucks his tail under his coat and flattens his ears to his head- rendering them nearly invisible- striding out of the room. I assume he's heading back to the hotel, so I find Norman and we head the same way.
Nighttime comes and goes, and when morning comes around I go to summon Red Eye to his training- but when I knock on the door he doesn't respond. I try knocking and waiting a few more times, then I pick the lock and go in. "Red Eye? It's morning, where are you?" I look over to the bed, seeing that it's completely empty in its shady corner.
I look around the rest of the room, spotting him sleeping in a shaft of sunlight coming from the window. He's curled into a ball, like a cat, with his back towards the light and one arm tossed over his eyes.
I know that there are much stranger ways that he could follow his instincts, and I'm grateful that he doesn't have to, but I do have to wonder for a moment how he just wakes up in his perfectly fine bed and thinks, "I'mma go sleep in the sun 'cause I'm a cat," and just does that.
I suppose he's just used to it by now. I shake my head, dismissing the thought for now and kneeling beside him. "Red Eye, you need to wake up." Nothing. "Red Eye, wake up," I order a bit louder. He doesn't stir, so I gently shake his shoulder and he smacks my hand away, grumbling in cat sounds.
"Red Eye, it's time to wake. Up." I shake his shoulder more and he hisses at me. I sigh, considering my choices, then I try a different approach. "If you sleep any longer you'll lose your matches."
"RROWR!" He bolts up, scrambling to his feet and high-tailing it out of the room. I rub my ringing ear, sighing and following him out.
"Sleeping in the sun, hmm?" Norman hums, trying not to grin in amusement. "He really does embrace his feline side."
We both glance over at Red Eye, who watches on his Beyblade with precise focus. Nothing could possibly tear his gaze away. If you listen closely, you can hear him growling a little. I'm not sure why, he just is.
"He does. But I guess it's either that or be a cat forever."
"True." We watch Red Eye for a bit longer until Spryzen spins out and he picks it up, then he looks to the red dot on the wall and I realize Norman stole my phone again how does he do that-
"Mrrr. Mrrrrrr..." He gently places the Requiem in his Bey case, still watching the dot. "RrrrROWR!" Red Eye lunges at it, pawing at the wall and meowing loudly. I wonder how nobody ever wonders what we're doing in here.
Then I remember that the walls are soundproof.
Norman moves around as Red Eye continues chasing the light until he's across the room from me, aiming the phone at the ceiling until Red Eye sits down to catch his breath. I also find myself wondering how Red Eye managed to chase the laser light so efficiently, back when he was still Shu and lived alone in Japan.
Soon Red Eye nods at Norman, crouching down and flicking his tailtip. Norman studies the walls, trying to decide a pattern, then he looks at me. A small grin spreads across his face and he points the laser at my chest.
"Norman, if you think Red Eye would-"
"MROW!" Red Eye lunges, headbutting my chest and managing to knock me over.
"GYAH!"
"You were saying, Theodore?" Norman asks, covering the light for now. Red Eye- beginning to look embarrassed- slowly climbs off of me.
I stand up, dusting off my suit. "Alright, Red Eye, back to training."
"Yes, Ashtem." As he goes to the Beydish Norman walks over to me, handing me my phone.
"Don't do that again," I say. He nods, but I'm certain he's definitely going to do it again.
Red Eye mostly trains for the rest of the day, taking small breaks for water. At one point I see him rubbing his neck sorely, like he was the most hurt when he headbutted me. "Mrrrr!"
That night...
(Red Eye) This salad is terrible. It tastes like cat vomit.
"And you know this... How?"
I don't really know, but it just seems fitting. I sigh, shoving the salad back in the fast food bag. There must be something around here I can cook with to make a decent meal.
So I do find some filleted fish- and by find I mean I buy it with money I steal from Ashtem's wallet because he's not at the hotel right now to stop me- and go into his suite, finding the kitchen and getting to work.
Once it's seasoned and cooked I plate it, wash the dishes and take it back to my room. I take a bite, unable to stop from purring over how good it tastes. "Much better."
(Theodore) I get back to the hotel, going to the suite I rented. The moment I step in I realize it smells fantastic- like gourmet fish fillet- but I have no idea why...
