A couple knocks sounded at the door, then Chiharu's voice called out. "Valt? Valt, it's time to wake up. You don't want to be late for your first day as a Scarer for BC Gore, do you?"

After a couple minutes of silence, the door creaked open and the light from the hallway flooded the dark room. If there wasn't the clutter of a child covering the quaint hardwood and the blue-and-white diamond rug, it might have been frightening.

"Valt?" Chiharu stepped into the room, looking at the figure on the bed uncertainly. "Sweetie, are you alright?..."

She trudged over to the bed, reaching out and touching the figure. It felt way too soft to be Valt... So he pulled off the blanket and saw that the figure was made of pillows, frowning as she realized what was going on.

And right on cue, she felt a presence at her back and heard a low growl. Without turning to look, she put on a firm voice and said. "Valt Aoi, don't you even try to scare me."

"Awww, how did you knoooow?!" Came the upset whine, just as she expected. Chiharu turned, smiling at the pair of glowing umber eyes behind her and crossing her arms over her chest.

"I'm your mother, I know everything. Now, what are you doing up so early?"

"I thought you knew everything?" Valt questioned, then he giggled when she reached out and playfully tugged on his horse-like ear. "Heh heh, Mooom!... Well, um, I woke up early, and I couldn't get back to sleep. I'm too excited!"

"Oh?" She raised an eyebrow, then she began to cross over to the lightswitch. "How long have you been up for? It's six already, and that's pretty early..."

"Uhhhh... Maybe four? Four-fifteen?"

She turned on the light, chuckling a bit sheepishly and turning to her son. He was already dressed up in his daily clothes, with his mane brushed and pushed back by his headband. "Oh, Valt, where do you get all that energy from?..."

Valt grinned excitedly, beginning to bounce up and down. "From the fact that I'm gonna be the youngest Scarer in the history of monsters!" He cheered, bouncing even higher than before. His hooves were clopping on the ground rhythmically with each little jump.

"Well, that would do it." His mother chuckled again, then she went over and held his shoulders to stop him. "Just don't burn through that energy too soon, okay? You gotta keep your strength up for scare practice today."

"I know! But I can just carbo load if I need to!"

"As long as you don't make yourself sick. Now, how about you go wake up the twins while I get breakfast started?"

"Sounds good to me!" Valt chirped, beginning to run out of the room. She smiled and shook her head affectionately, leaving the room and going downstairs to the kitchen, where she began to make a hearty breakfast for her children.

Meanwhile, Valt raced to a pair of light pink and robin-blue doors, knocking on them both and shouting. "Hey, guys, it's time to wake up! Don't make me have to come in there!"
