In which Lui and Shu's friendship is beginning to blossom into something more, while at the same time Shu finds himself becoming a bit clingy. A new development at school only makes things worse... (Lui x Yandere Shu. Slowish burn. Five years after Evolution.)

-----

It's been a few weeks since Lui and I became friends. At first, it was strange and sometimes awkward, considering Lui was used to being alone and I was used to my friends either being excitable and energetic, quiet, or a bit snobby (you know who I mean.) It was even more uncomfortable when our newfound friendship was all anyone could talk about. Every time we turned around, someone was whispering to their friend about us.

But soon, we stopped being new. We stopped being so unusual. We became fellow students, in their eyes. The only time they talk about me is when they're discussing the cutest boys in school, and the only time they talk about Lui is when they're discussing the edgiest boys in school.

But they never talk to us directly. They only admire us from afar, talk about us when they think we're not listening.

It- it hurts, kind of. Not because they talk behind our backs, but because they still don't really see us as human, no matter how cute or edgy we are.

"Shu? You listening?"

I jump, blinking in surprise a moment before turning to Lui. "Hmm?"

He sighs, placing his hands on his hips with a frown. "Apparently not. I said, "hey, Shu, let's go get something to eat, I'm starving."

I can't help but smile- you wouldn't expect it from looking at him, but Lui has a tendency to think with his stomach. "Sure thing. You wanna go to your place, and I'll whip something up, or do you wanna go out?"

"Let's go out to eat, that way there aren't any dishes."

"Fine by me." He nods, beckoning for me to follow him, and I walk beside him through the school halls. "So, are we going to MadCat's?"

"Duh. Everywhere else is trash."

"Even Chia's?"

"Well, no, but I don't want ice cream right now." We go outside, watching the students climbing onto the bus or getting into cars with their parents, then we keep going.

"Where do you want to go after MadCat's?"

"My place. We can battle or hang out, I guess." We continue or walk, not talking but not uncomfortable in the silence. I can't help but think back to how hesitant Lui and I were to explore the city, at first. We'd look up places to go on my phone or Lui's laptop and talk about it a bit, then decide to stay at Lui's house. Even now, I think we're still kind of scared of this place- especially with Miss Kitaniji's constant dismay at the fact that we walk ourselves home.

Nothing's happened yet, aside from that rogue Blading gang I met, but we're still cautious. Lui's house, Chia's, MadCat's and the beach nearby the Shirosagi residence are the only places were comfortable staying in for a long time. And Evanence Academy, I guess.

"Shu, you zoned out again." I look to Lui, furrowing my brow. "We're here. I told you, like, three times."

"Sorry."

He takes my hand, muttering to himself, "I swear to the gods, he's narrating a story in his head when he zones out."

I can't help but grin, blushing a little as I enjoy holding Lui's hand in mine. Friendships are powerful, but sometimes they're more powerful than just friendship. I'd explain, but if I zone out three times in a row, Lui's going to be angry.
