In which the gang finally makes it to the mountain, then they set course for the kingdom that stole their parents. They gain another ally on the way, but this one isn't so welcomed by the elfin King.

The closer they got to the God's Mountain, the harder it was to stay slow. They decided to bolt through the rest of the trails, rushing to get to the mountain so they would have time to get to whichever kingdom was guilty of kidnapping the King and Queen.

At long last, they reached the mountain. It towered so high it seemed to reach the heavens, a cold air settling around the five boys as they stared up at the massive structure. It made Valt feel tinier than he already was. It made him feel insignificant.

Then he looked around at his friends- Shu, Rantaro, Kensuke and Wakiya- and he felt a surge of confidence. "Alright, let's do this." He went over to Valtryek, pulling out his cold-weather clothes from the bag and tugging them on. He turned, meeting Shu's eyes as the snow elf pulled off his cloak and wrapped it around Valt's shoulders.

"Just in case, Prince." He murmured, a look of concern in his eyes similar to the one you might see from a worried sibling. He handed Valt the small burlap sack the Prince had brought to hold treasure in, then tucked a stray strand of hair behind Valt's ears.

"You don't have to worry, Shu. I'll be fine." Valt murmured, grinning at his friend kindly.

Shu smiled sheepishly in return, nodding and stepping back. His bird joined the Prince's side, bowing respectfully and crouching so Valt could climb on. Once Valt was on, Shu approached his mount and whispered. "Be slow, alright? Valt's never flown before."

The bird nodded, spreading its wings and carefully taking off into the sky. The Prince held onto the reigns tightly, watching as the mouth of the cave the Hoard was stashed in grew bigger and bigger, until the bird finally landed on the ledge leading to the cave.

Valt dismounted, petting the bird a moment before he grabbed his bag and approached the cave. He could see the glowing blue barrier, put in place by the God Valtryek. The Prince's protection rune glowed softly, and he passed through the barrier.

The inside of the cave glittered like a lake at dawn, filled with thousands of ancient gold coins and gems of all shapes, sizes and colors. Take only what you need. One full bag is enough. Valt told himself, going over to a mound of gold and filling his sack.

When he had enough, he tied the bag shut and cradled it to his chest. Hopefully this will be enough. It should. These ancient coins are valued at ten- no twenty times their original worth. He approached the entrance to the cave, then stopped and turned back to the Hoard. He knelt before the gold, speaking softly. "To the God of Genesis, to Valtryek... Thank you for sharing your treasure with us mortals. With this gold, I can save the lives of my parents, and the parents of my friends... Thank you."

"You are most welcome, young Prince."

Valt gasped softly, lifting his head and looking around the cave. No one spoke again, so Valt simply left the cave, but a gleeful smile had set itself firmly onto his lips. The God of Genesis spoke to him! That was a very high honor!

Shu's bird waited patiently outside, meeting him halfway and crouching again. Valt mounted the bird carefully, holding onto the bag of coins tightly. Valt spurred his temporary steed, making the flight back down the mountain as quickly and safely as he could.

When he landed in front of his friends, he dismounted Shu's bird and held the burlap sack over his head. "We did it!"

The group cheered triumphantly. "Now we can save our parents!" Rantaro added, holding Kensuke's and Valt's hands. The retainer and the Prince smiled, nodding in agreement. At that moment, they heard a bird whistling and looked up, spotting a messenger bird.
