In which Lui and Shu have to transfer to a new, unfamiliar school far away from their respective homes. Without their families or friends, they both have to accept that the only familiar thing they can find comfort in... Is each other. But soon Shu begins to find too much comfort, and the thought of ever losing the one familiar thing he knows drives him mad. (Lui x Yandere Shu. Slow burn. Five years after Evolution.)

My palms and my forehead are slick with sweat but my mouth is dry as sawdust. My stomach seems to be break dancing, and I can barely choke back the bile rising in my throat. My nerves are frayed already, and my heart is pounding in my chest.

This shouldn't be so difficult. I've never been shy, I've never had any difficulty navigating school...

But this is a new school, in a new town, with every single face being one I've never met. I don't have my friends at my sides, I don't know where anything is except the principal's office, and I don't know any of my teachers. I wish I could go back to Beigoma Academy, run and hide back in my apartment, I wish I could go home, but I can't. This is so much closer to the town my parents work in, so they don't have to worry about me being so far away- instead of a two days' drive, it's only one hour...

If only I had a mask I could hide behind. All of a sudden I wish my old one didn't break in half. I force myself to take a deep breath, wiping the sweat from my forehead and drying my hands. Come on, get it together. You're Shu Kurenai, you can handle this! I try to keep from telling myself, "It doesn't matter who I am, this is a new school and nobody here will know you," forcing one foot in front of the other, forcing myself to enter the lion's den.

Just like on the outside, it doesn't appear all that unpleasant. The halls are filled with strange kids my age, their voices clamoring over one another in a horrid cacophony of gossip and rumormilling.

I keep my head down, weaving as best as I can through the crowd. I manage to avoid bumping into anyone, but they still notice me and the gossip quickly finds a new subject.

"I don't recognize that boy. Who is he?"

"He must be a new guy."

"He doesn't look like like much..."

"Why's he wearing a pink shirt?"

"He's kinda mysterious lookin', isn't he?"

"He's probably got a reason to keep his head down."

"Look at his eyes!"

I do my best to ignore them, making my way to the principal's office without much incident. Even after I shut the door, I can still feel their eyes on me...

"Oh, you must be Shu Kurenai." I jump, whirling around to face the principal- and my heart sinks with how much he looks like Theodore Glass.

His hair is slicked back in style, dark brown on top and milky white at the bottom. At first his eyes look teal and I'm really tempted to run, but I calm down as I realize they're actually sky blue, and they have a certain kindness in them that calms me further. The facial features are about the same, just a bit softer and more feminine.

"I'm sorry for startling you. I'm the vice principal, Kou Kitaniji, but you may call me Miss Kitaniji."

Oh gods that's a woman. I feel abashed, slightly, but I nod and squeak out. "Pleasure to meet you, Miss Kitaniji." To make up for my previous silence, I offer her my hand and she accepts the gesture.

"Unfortunately, the principal himself is sick and he's resting at home. But don't worry, I have everything you need."

"Great," I say, trying to keep my voice from going quiet. First impressions are important, and I've already goofed it up too much. She pulls out a three pieces of paper, handing them to me. One is the map of the school, and the other... Is a map of the school.
