All Hallows Eve

In which Shu's friends are all scattered across the world this Halloween, but just as he starts to make plans to stay in and mope all night, little Fubuki steps in and changes his plans. The night of Halloween, the group grows by three members and they end up getting dragged into an unusual competition.
(Set after the end of Evolution, so Shu's shoulder is still a bit hurt. The twins, Fubuki and Suoh are all nine, Shu is twelve, Zac, Lui and Haru are thirteen. Haru is my OC, her regular appearance is shown above for reference.)

Hey, Ken, are you going to be able to come around for Halloween? :3

I click send and wait for him to reply, then I let out a soft sigh and blink back tears that quickly form.

I won't be, sorry. ;w; I wanted to, but then I was asked to help for a Halloween party at school.

Oh, that's okay! I was just curious! :3 I click send even though I feel the second cat grin may have been a bit much, though I don't think he notices.

But I'll come around soon, I promise! For now, I gotta go. TTYL!

I put my phone away and heave another sigh, covering my eyes and leaning into the bench. All alone this Halloween, that's a first... I guess I'll just get some candy and eat my feelings at home...

I hear the rooftop door open and close, quickly wiping my eyes and blinking a few times before I move my hand. I watch as Fubuki rounds the corner, grinning at me cheerfully.

"Hi, Fubuki." I greet when he comes close enough. "How was school?"

"It was great! Suoh and I talked about our costumes and we decided to go as Sora and Riku from Kingdom Hearts!" He chirps excitedly, sitting down beside me.

"Ohhh, cool!" I smile at him. "Are you going to be Sora?"

"Yeah!"

"I thought so. You two are one in the same." I chuckle, petting his hair with my good arm. He glances away sheepishly, scratching his cheek with his finger.

"Yeah, I guess so..." He perks up after a moment, turning to me and smiling. "Hey, what are you gonna dress up as?"

I look away, keeping on my smile even though I feel a pang of hurt in my chest. "Oh, well... I wasn't going out for Halloween, actually."

"What?! But Shu, you're gonna miss out on so much!"

"Just Trick or Treating by myself..."

"No, you can come with us!" He says, taking my good hand in his and staring up at me with big, pleading eyes. "Come on, Shu! I don't want you to have to spend Halloween alone!"

I can't help but smile at that, my heart warmed but how thoughtful he is. Then I frown a bit, asking. "But I thought you and Suoh wanted to go out without someone watching over you?"

"You're different, though! You're one of us, after all!"

"Well... If Suoh doesn't mind, then I'd love to go with you two."

"Sweet! Hey, let's go ask him right now!" He jumps up, pulling on my arm and getting me to stand up.

"But I thought you wanted to practice together?" I question, then he lets go of my hand so I can get my bag.

"It can wait for a little while." Fubuki waves his hand dismissively, then when my bag is over my shoulder he begins tugging me along again. "I want you to be able to get planning your costume as soon as possible!"
