Overprotective, Part 5

In which Lui and Shu finally come back to school, and the red-eyed Blader manages to catch a break, but it doesn't last long. Unfortunately, Lui's reputation has gotten an unexpected and potentially dangerous boost that causes Shu to become very overprotective. (Lui x Yandere Shu. Five years after Evolution.)

One month later...

"You can rest assured that nothing will happen to your son or Mister Kurenai during their time at my school," Miss Kitaniji says, taking over as principal since our actual principal is sick again. "They'll be perfectly safe during their time in school."

"So no one has been threatening Shu?" Mister Saiai asks, his arms crossed and face set in stern expression.

Miss Kitaniji shifts uncomfortably, and in the back of my mind I realize this is only time I've seen her do such. "Ah..." She takes a deep breath and does her best to meet Mister Saiai's gaze. "A few girls who were close to Mina Mitsuki have been calling for revenge against Mister Kurenai, yes."

I feel my hands beginning to shake as my heart starts pounding, then Lui reaches takes my hand in his and squeezes it comfortingly.

"But I assure you, the teachers will keep a close eye on Mister Kurenai and ensure he is safe through the entire day of school. Any students who try to harm him will be reprimanded and I will see to it that they are expelled from Evanence Academy."

"Is there anything else you'd like to add?" Mister Saiai asks.

Miss Kitaniji falls silent for a moment, then her expression turns to one of concern as she speaks, "If anything goes wrong today... You might want to consider homeschooling, Mr. Shirosagi." She takes a deep breath. "But that's only if something goes wrong, and I will do everything possible to ensure that that remains a very tiny if. You have my word."

"Good. I just hope your word is worth as much as you think it is."

"It is, Dad," Lui says. "She's a great principal, she'll make sure nothing happens." I don't know what I can add to that, so I nod in agreement. Miss Kitaniji looks touched, but when Saiai turns back to her, her expression hardens again.

"Alright. If Lui trusts you, that's more than enough for me. Thank you, Miss Kitaniji."

"You're welcome, Mr. Shirosagi. Would you like me to see you out?"

"No, thank you."

She nods before looking to Lui and I. "You two should head to class soon, so you're not late, but first..." She goes to her desk, picking up some papers and handing them to both of us. "I changed your schedules just a bit to make you both more comfortable returning."

Lui and I reference the papers, finding that we now have science first, and math second. The other classes are unchanged, so now Lui and I have every single class together. I can't help but smile, and I look back to our vice principal. "Thank you so much, Miss Kitaniji. This means so much to me."

"And to me," Lui adds. She smiles in return, and Mister Saiai is smiling a little, too. After a moment he turns and kneels in front of us, asking quietly.

"Are you sure you boys are going to be alright?"

"Of course," I say. "If Miss Kitaniji says she won't let anything happen to us, then it's the truth."

"What Shu said," Lui agrees. Saiai sighs softly and pulls us into a hug.

"I'll be here the moment school lets out, I promise. And Shu, if your parents call you, let me know, okay?"
