derek has always been a bit of a different kid growing up. when he was younger he got in a car accident that caused him to not be able to move his legs. he's been in a wheelchair ever since.
growing up people always avoided him. they never knew what to say so he didn't have any friends. this caused him to not understand other people very well because of the lack of communication in his life.
his only friend is meredith. they've known eachother since they were in elementary school. they're both now 16. they just connected straight away and instantly became best friends when they were younger and it hasn't changed since. their parents are close friends aswell because of them.
Derek has 4 sisters but he's not close with them, apart from Amy. she's the only one who is nice to him. meredith has a sister too, lexie.
Derek doesn't have a very good life but will that change?
