"Your powers, what can you do?"

She looks at me through the corner of her eye and then back to her front. "It depends on most I imagine, but my powers take after something far more demonic rather than the flashy skills you'll see from the others."

I nod slowly. "Not exactly heroic."

"Heroic?" she chuckles. "I don't want to be a hero, but what about you? Are you a hero? Would the darkness you wield make you one? Would anyone want to see you as one? A lot of questions when it comes down to it."

I nod slowly. "My mother said something along the lines, that it would be hard to pose as a hero when you look like the villain."

"See? But appearance rarely matters, it is how you use that will matter in the end."

Then stopping near one of the stores, there were even more students around here than I thought there would be. It is like we students of this college live an entire life in a bubble. It is probably for the sake of never needing to leave until you graduate.

"Evelynn!" One of the guys is headed straight towards us. "See you already claimed the freshie for yourself."

She looks at me and then back at him. "Hm mhm, know that when someone becomes a champion, the people just love breaking them down to see if they have what it takes. Thought I'd spare him the sick game."

I watch the guy silently, a redhead with just as red eyebrows with pale blue eyes. Taller than both of us he just looks like skin and bones.

"Saved him from some of the scum," he chuckles. "Lucked out with her, trust me, Eve knows how to treat her friends well."

She doesn't react to his compliments. "What's up?" She asks as if to ask why he approached us in the first place.

"Erica and the rest of your crew meeting up at the same place tonight?"

I tighten the muscles in my jaw as I zone out for a moment, I watch him leave as I then turn to Evelynn asking her. "Erica? Erica Phoenix?"

She looks at me through the corner of her eye. "One of your classmates?" then lets a smile spread across her face, "But with a reaction like that I might think that there is a lot more history than simple classmates."

I shake my head,  before breaking eye contact. "Old friend."

"Want to meet her tonight? That is where I was going to end up dragging you along before you disappear to find the rest of your freshies. The thing is, does she know you? Because she didn't recognize you when we watched you."

I tighten the muscles in my jaw slightly at the thought, and then quickly make peace with it. "She probably doesn't remember me."

She crosses her arms. "Was it serious? Intimate?" I don't respond. "Chances are you changed from the last time she saw you, maybe she was hoping you were going to show up among the other fresh faces."

"Maybe."

"Maybe?" She scoffs. "Not one for looking at the brighter side of things?"

"There isn't anything there worth talking about."

"Liar," she whispers and then walks into the store, I take a deep breath.

She's a strange one. Evelynn seems almost like she is observing it from the side while keeping some of the details to herself while trying to pry into as much as she possibly can. But maybe she is right, if she didn't recognize me then it must mean I was far away from who I was.

Evelynn walks around the corner and hands me a can of drink. "Don't know what you drink so I got you the basic of basic," she offers the can.

I grab the can of coke as I finally crack a smile, "Reason for this?"
