I explained to them everything that I went through, everything I saw, how I grew stronger through the years and the grim things I had to do to survive. The creatures I slaughtered even when they ignored me because I needed to survive.

That it infected me with a parasite keeping me alive. Sam had left a little while ago with a promise to show me something that she prepared while waiting for me to come back... it almost feels like they never gave up on me, even when I would have given up on myself.

"There is something else..."

"Meaning something terrifying?"

I then glance at Memory. "Nightmares. I think that is what they call themselves, so far the three.... no, four that I met have specific names. I imagine each of them representing what their names mean."

"And his name is Memory."

Memory nods, "That is my name."

"How did you get one to conform to you?" She asks me while watching him with piqued interest. "Highly sentient creatures with a will and mind above a human's will have free will, even though you control them."

Memory answers for me, "Because I was given a chance where my kin wouldn't."

She chuckles. "Fascinating. The one thing I haven't been able to do and here you are doing it perfectly. It almost makes me want to take you out to spar and see how much you've grown, I won't be holding back this time."

I shake my head at her. "You sure? I've gotten plenty stronger."

"But is it enough to beat me?" She snorts. "I almost hope so. You have grown," she nods. "But there is unlimited potential there and I've never sought to become more because I could never control this power properly, maybe you can."

I wonder if all the things I did? Would she be able to learn to control her power? Or does she just have much more raw strength that she can tap into if she lets it all go, to resort to reckless abandon? I feel like Mom would still be stronger than me seeing that she is far older than me with loads more experience, but I hope that I can at least force her to break a sweat.

"Just be careful with them, (Y/N). I won't question his loyalty but when it comes to it. If these Nightmares ever come for you there exists a chance that he will turn on you. Just be ready to make sure he regrets it."

"I will not be reduced to nothing," Memory states, "I know what it entails, through him I live on. Through him I am made whole."

"I am just warning you," she ignores his words. "As for the people at the academy? Think carefully about who you want to trust. Right now you are at the apex and there will be a lot to challenge your claims."

I nod slowly, interlacing my fingers with each other I shake my head slowly. "I knew what was waiting for me before I came back, but... I am just glad among the smiling faces I could still see my family."

She flashes me a smile, "Good. I'll keep an eye open for you, and see what I can do. But until then, stay strong for all of us, and give everyone else time to get used to seeing you again..."

"Yeah."

We close things off with each other and I then head straight for the new apartment that Fury pointed me towards. Being the highest-ranked student in this academy I have special perks they also have taken away my chance at revenge.

Walking down the road it is rather empty, I was expecting a lot more people but we are getting closer to the afternoon so people are either exercising or busy doing their last classes. Huh. I still remember the schedule. Or maybe they are all exhausted after this morning's attack.
