*** Kiriko (mom) POV   ***

"Detective," my partner walks up to me while I sit outside against the car's bonnet.

"Detective," I greet him back.

"Didn't think you'd make it for this one,"—he gestures at the building shrouded in darkness—"the warehouse area looks a bit abandoned but there are definitely traces of people living here. Don't really know if there is anything bad, I am expecting some morphs."

Taking a long pull from my cigarette. "Do we have the all-clear?"

"Not yet," he sighs. "Dispatch wants some patrols around the area to send with us."

"Don't need it," I take another pull, "But let's just sit tight just in case, neither of us wants this night to go any longer than it has to."

"That's all we can do. How's the kids?"

Shooting him a short glance, I then fix my eyes back to the entrance of the warehouse. "Sam's still doing her best, got a year left then it's her turn. (Y/N) got in a week ago."

"He get a hang of his powers yet?"

I shake my head. "Did what we could with the time we had but I am worried that the sudden shift in lifestyle might affect him and his mental." Taking another long pull I fill my lungs with the smoke before exhaling it all out slowly. "He never had early signs of developing powers and might have turned out to be a dud. So I just let him do what he wanted to do."

"Really? Explains why when I saw him on the TV he looked good."

"When I saw that he finally got his powers and that it was mine..." I chuckle as I crack a smile, "Felt happy that one of our kids ended up with my little gift so at that very moment I made him go through hell because the power has an incredibly draining effect on your body."

"Still, that was a massive change to happen in an entire year, must have given him a lot of confidence."

As I fill my lungs again I only nod before responding as I exhale. "It was a lot of things that drove him forward but between getting his power, wanting to make it, and losing a good friend. All of that can be attributed to his exceptional growth in such a short time."

"And his mother being there to push him as far as he can go."

"Hmm," taking another pull. "I am worried about him," I then open the palms of my hand as a shadow creature starts to take shape. "We aren't heroes, people might mistake us for monsters because of our powers. How do you idolise something with such a dark tone?" The bird cocks its head at me.

A little shadowy raven walks off of my hand to rest on my fingers. "Emotions are powerful but if he ever loses control then he could hurt everyone around him."

"Meaning to say you think it could happen?"

"He had the power for a year," I state. "The strain it can put on your body, along with a multitude of other things can just nudge you further and further into a breaking point. His mentality over a lot of things only started to straighten around the time he got his power."

I then push my hand out and the raven starts to fly towards the door. Using him to go and see if he can find anything that we won't be able to see with the naked eye. I hear the sirens grow closer and just in time.

I state as I push myself off of the bonnet and toss the cigarette to the side. "I'll take the back."

"Need me at all?"

I glance at him, "Sure."

"Taking prisoners?"

I then state, "They don't call us in ever to take prisoners. These are highly dangerous targets. Kill them on sight."

I pull out my gloves from my pockets and tread closer to the back of the warehouse. My Raven fed me enough intel through our link to give me everything I wanted to know. Enough to say that we aren't going to be taking anyone to any prison cells at this rate.

On my way towards the back, I phase through the crates and appear behind someone hiding behind the corner with his phone illuminating the immediate area around him. Walking up I slam his head into the crate. Blood and splinters scatter as I slam it again breaking through the box with his cut-open face.

I let the body fall to the floor while I push through towards the back door. I spot another two people hiding near the door. I hear the wind blow as something dives through their heads like a bullet.

The Raven then returns back to my hand, resting on it like a perch. "Good girl," I mutter as the Raven returns to my shadow.

I step through the doors into the darkness of the warehouse where they are all hiding away from me. They shouldn't be hiding, because I can still see them. The dark is my authority. Shadows and smoke are my vices. They mistake me for a hero, an officer when in truth... at this very moment I am their monster.

I step backwards dodging a downward slam from a hulk of a man wielding a piece of rebar as his weapon of choice. A Morpher; a people whose powers allow them to change their form in specific ways. His skin was illuminated by the moonlight shining through the windows.

Spears of black impale him to the ground with traces of crimson trickling down his muscled back. I step forward feeling three more people close the distance. The area around me is swallowed by shadow tendrils that all reach for anything close to me.

Tossing them around the room and flailing them around like toys. Their bodies ripped apart from the jerky movements and their skulls exploded from being slammed against the cement. I step forward realising that one of them didn't die from the impact. The lights suddenly switch on to the room with my partner screams at the top of his lungs.

"Found the light switch!"

I lower myself to look this man in the face. "Bitch-" he spits blood at my feet.

"Seeing as you are still alive I might as well use this opportunity. My orders are to kill everything in here. Mind cooperating?" I then let the little Raven take form, jumping around in front of his face with his little beak aimed at his eyes.

"Don't talk to cops," he shoots me a wild glare. "The rest will know... they are watching already. That pretty face isn't going to look like that after they've done everything they wanted to do to a bitch like you!" He's spitting out more blood than he can afford to lose.

"I'd suggest talking before she starts picking at your skin, then your eyes," I pull out a cigarette and light it in front of him.

"Pompous bitch - you are a freak."

"Found the easiest way to communicate with savages is by responding in kind. Then again, underneath it all, we are all monsters," then blowing the smoke out of the corner of my mouth.

"Fuck you."

I sigh, this isn't getting anywhere. I glance down at the little Raven as it starts to peck the skin off of his nose edging closer and closer to his eyelids. His horrified screams fill the room as more and more officers flood into the room but none of them dare to step in to save his life.

"Wait-! I can-"

The Raven launches its head through his socket and starts pulling out the inside of his head with blood coating his body. I lift myself and glance at the detective that was sent to me who approaches me with a manifest.

"Good job, Kiriko."

I don't respond as I read through it. "Does this indicate anything?"

"Nothing."

"Hmm. I had hoped they'd lead me to him, but I guess every lead is a dead-end. We should leave, if these are his goons then this place is either rigged to blow or he sent more people to send us on another goose chase."

Khada Jhin.

I am coming for you, but you know that already.

Is that why you won't show yourself anymore?
