First day of officially starting.
They put all of us in the same class for the first year. After that, we can go to specialised classes with professors to tutor us in specific fields and to attune our abilities. Then there is me... I wonder where my magic lies, I wonder where it would place me?
Skye is sitting next to me with the other five scattered around the rest of the class.
"Let's start with your Star ratings and how it works."
Guess this is where we get to learn if we are worth something or not.
"Stars. Each of you here will be allocated some stars from one to three. This is a reflection of your estimated skill, power, output, and body rating. I can safely say that none of you here has a one-star rating with a majority of you being a two-star rating."
Guess I can't be unlucky and be the only asshole with one star. So glad that isn't a thing.
"Look at your cards, it will update you currently what your current rating is at and if you didn't receive a rating then stay behind because the system is either excluding you for an unknown reason or we glossed over you because we are all still people and can make mistakes."
I glance down at the card between my arms to see that I, as I thought, am the lucky asshole that got an error. I glance to my side to see Skye show me that she has also gotten an error. I twist my lips to the side as she lifts her shoulders into a shrug.
I whisper. "Me too. Must hate us for some reason."
Then looking back at him as he continues with his explanation.
"The most important thing to take from this is your teams, which you get to decide on, have a group rating that is also ranked with the system. Once you are registered you will all be able to take jobs of a similar star level by the end of the week."
"Classes aren't mandatory but I'd advise taking the ones that are focussed on these jobs to further combat ability and such. The mandatory classes are highlighted with a red so do well not to miss them."
"Lastly is raids. You are allowed to join them with your team with the condition that it can not be with another Freshman team. This is mandatory to ensure that we do not send any of you to die out there."
"We deal with terrorists, criminals, raging monsters, mythical creatures, and the occasional rift that may open,"—he crosses his arms with a stern stare—"what happens inside a rift or in the case of one opening will be explained by a different professor. Do not give any of our people trouble or we can penalise you, or expel you."
Rather drastic but okay.
"I must express,"—he rests his hands on the table as he clears his throat—"yhese are all the people that you will fight alongside. They are not your enemy and if you hold a grudge I'd suggest dropping it before you get yourself or them killed. Our organisation has far more things to worry about than petty grudges."
"And please, be smart. Be safe. We don't have any policies on relationships other than any explicit activities on academy grounds. If you are found taking part in any of these activities you will be charged appropriately."
Really really drastic but okay.
The little talk goes on and on. More about how the rules work and what not to do - a lot of boiling down to not being an idiot and if there is the case of someone attacking you be sure to report it so that it can be handled properly.
Though that just feels like a terrible way to handle it. They won't just magically stop hating me after I go and cry to the headmaster.
The bell rings signalling the end of this session and leaving us to deal with all the little admin details and classes go into full swing tomorrow. Which is just lovely. I then walk down with Skye stopping at the front as the lector asks, "Cards please."
Taking both the cards we hover around as he clears his throat. "Two Champions. As of now, you both have powers that are entirely new to the system and we placed a query and found an instance of your power showing up in another country (Y/N)."
"That would be my mother," I state.
"We have dispatched a query to find you a trainer but if you can, please ask your mother to come and see the headmaster to discuss your situation," then looking at Skye. "And you miss... Skye, right?"
"Yeah," she speaks, in a very soft and quiet voice.
"The same goes for you and we already found someone that will be flying over to help with your training," then handing both our cards back. "Your unique abilities and both being champions have given us room to make you both four-star rated individuals. Share that with the others of your own volition."
The highest rating is ten stars. We take the cards and leave the room, I don't pressure her about talking knowing that she only did it because it was expected of her. "Catch you later, Skye."
"... See you," she says as she walks the opposite way.
I then start walking around to see that quite a few people are roaming around the halls but then I spot a familiar face who is leaning against the wall with her attention fixed onto me.
"Sup?"
I then gesture to the card. "Just got our ratings and pretty much just got a lot of admin to deal with."
Akali then nods. "Got anything good?"
I then look at the card before stating, "Four stars."
She raises both her eyebrows. "Really? Then again you are a champion and it isn't unheard of to skip tier three. Congrats, it wouldn't have taken you long to get out of tier three anyway but the boost is nice."
"Thanks... what is your star rating, if you don't me asking?"
She tilts her head to the side as if trying to think if she really needs to tell me. "Hmm. Seven."
"And it's your second year here?" I can't help but be astonished.
She then looks at me with an amused expression. "I started at two stars because I don't have magic or special powers. I am just relying on physical ability and it is pretty easy to rank it. A lot of your stars come from doing jobs and I've been doing maybe seven a week."
"Ahh..."
"So? You have been keeping out of trouble? Haven't heard the people complaining about you in a while so I have to say that I am pretty proud of you," she slaps my shoulder.
I furrow my brow at her, "They were fucking with me."
"I know," she nods. "But I thought I wasn't going to see you again considering Troy coming straight for your throat and then heard from Eve that she thinks it just is better to keep you far from him."
I chuckle, "Probably better for everyone that way."
"Definitely. But why let them have their way? Still, a lot of people you can become friends with and after Erica and Troy fighting over it's safe to say they will stay out of your hair. Or at least we can hope, right?"
I then scoff, "Fought over me?"
She nods, "Troy came to you after she explained why she went to talk to you. Troy thought you were being a little rat, not my words, which led to that whole thing."
Really? Fighting over me?
She then looks at me through the corner of her eye. ":Well the two of us got off on a bad start even though I knew you weren't nearly as bad as they were making it out to be,"—she then offers with a slight smile—"I could tell you aren't a jackass from the first encounter we had but I can't defend you, sorry."
"I don't expect you to stand up for someone you don't really know."
"But I could have," she counters. "But I hope you stick around," she says as she pushes herself off the wall.
Her hair is tied up again into a high ponytail... I think she looks good either way though. Watching her walk down the hallway I can't help but think about what it would be like being with that group, I might like it more now that all of the issues are kind of resolved.
