A flash of light and there he is, stopping me from running further I am faced with the person who has been dangling someone else's death in front of me. I can barely feel the tips of my fingers, right now I am not in the state to pick another fight.
"It seems that you don't have any control over your bloodlust."
I shake my head. "It should all become crystal clear to you soon enough."
"Oh, it has been an eye-opener." He folds his arms behind his back, peeking past me he is looking at Fury who is lying still. "If she's here then it must mean you brought her back after temporarily killing her, if I have to be honest I am quite shocked you didn't just leave the body there to find its way back the hard way."
"She can cross the gap, both of us know that."
He chuckles. "So Troy is dead, along with the convoy," he then stretches out his hand, "surely you waited to get what I needed before killing them, right? It would have saved us both trouble and saved me the pain of having to turn the world against you."
I stay quiet.
His idle expression shifts into a grin. "You didn't? Well... I suppose that leaves me with little choice on what to do. But looking at the state of you now would be the perfect time to kill you and claim that the problem has been thoroughly dealt with."
I ready myself for whatever he is going to throw at me.
I take a step backward as he approaches me. I see a glint of something invisible, a thrust, and a clash. It happened so fast that I couldn't even register the fact that someone had appeared in front of me to interrupt his lunge.
The struggle ends with a thud and quake, the clash between the two has already been decided and both of them seemingly back down from any further pursuit.
"Darkness truly does stick together like puss," he breathes out with a sigh. "So tell me Darkness Incarnate, are the monsters lurking in the Void your mother and father or are you both just lucky enough to be blessed by an Ancient Chaos?"
"Should I ask if your infatuation with the Light has something to do with your allegiances, Azrael? I'd have thought that beings of power would do well to hide their True Names from the people they so desperately want to control."
I glance at my Mother who is speaking plainly, almost as if she knows more than he is willing to say.
"Impress me, Detective."
"Are you masking bravado with fear? Does what I know matter that much to you or are you willing to drop the Human Facade?"
His chuckle ramps up into mocking laughter. "You DO know more than you are letting on, isn't that just quite wonderful? Shall I just kill you both now and save myself the trouble of having to deal with either of you?"
She tosses the cigarette to the side and rolls up her sleeves. "It needs to end, you get to choose when." Landing short of us someone else appears out of the darkness with their sights set on Azrael who dramatically turns around to face them.
"I do get to choose, don't I?" He snaps his fingers to create a blinding light that lasts for a second and then he is gone.
His sudden disappearance is followed by that person who just appeared to disappear right after him. Mom turns around to face me with an exhausted expression, "I've already rallied what I could find, Azrael is going to have everyone turn against you in a matter of moments."
With a weak exhale, "He did promise that he would."
With a firm nod she hugs me, "I am proud of you. You need rest, you shouldn't be fighting the Nightmares on your own."
