I don't know when I came to but out of this dark featureless room that is the only thing I can see. Watching me in total silence - it is hard, I don't even know if it is really him standing there under the single light in this room.

You can only see the mask.

I try to move my leg but groan instantly, I can still feel the shot that went through my leg. My energy is still out of my system... my arms are numb but I can tell they are above me, it feels like something is running through them like sharp needles scratching my skin.

"Wha-" I hear Akane in the dark, "What happened?"

I then breathe out, "We got... captured."

"You stepped into the spotlight," his voice echoes through the room. "Though I must admire your tenacity you are much like your mother... or maybe it just hasn't dawned upon you how dire this situation is."

"Fuck you," I groaned trying to shift but nothing is happening.

"How vulgar," the other light starts to flicker illuminating the featureless room; a room caked with dust and a metal door, he is standing in the middle with Akane not far from me.

He then walks towards me, spinning a gun in his hand he stops short of me. "You have her eyes," he remarks. I hold my glare through my exhaustion, "And her expression, this makes this all the easier."

"Then why is he here?" I breathe out.

"To bear witness," he answers simply. "A performance awaits both of you, I will make you famous as the stepping stone to my best work... your purpose is to pave the way."

I muster some strength trying to move but it is all in vain, I can't move my arms or legs. I can barely move my mouth just to talk, "It's her... isn't it?"

"What are you talking about?"

"Why don't you tell him?" he continues.

"My mother," I groan.

"How perceptive."

"You saw me back then... why didn't you just..."

"I wouldn't have known what to do with you, such a prime subject to be used in a grand play. It needed planning... perfection that comes with the nuance of the grand play. And I've found your role to be extremely satisfying."

"It would have done the same thing!" I scream at him, feeling my vocal cords burn from my anger.

"Simple child, it is basic psychology. No, I do not wish for you to lead the play but only to take part in it. You are not the one I wish to kill."

"What do you mean?" Akane asks, I can tell he is terrified. "How is that basic?!"

I then look at him, "How about you answer his question, you seem to be far more rational it is a shame I don't have the chance to see you bloom into something better."

"Fuck you."

With a deep chuckle, "A mother would easily choose her child over the murderer. If she saves you then it defeats the purpose. A lesson in sacrifice as I have sacrificed a great deal towards art!"

"You are sick!"

"All artists are," he counters all too easily, "Though I suppose you understand the situation."

He intends to use us both to kill her so she can't save any of us because that means he will find a way to kill the other. I don't know how he intends to do it but I have to find a means of doing this.

"Your leg is wounded but had it bound to slow the blood loss, your energy will never recover and I made sure that you would never be able to shift," he chuckles. "I had plenty of time to see it for myself, the magnificence of your gift."

He then lowers himself close to me, speaking in a whisper. "I have been planning her final performance for a very... long... time. And here you are, a little bird with clipped wings begging to be rescued."

"And when they find you... they will cry." I just hold my silent glare. "Silent resentment?" he lifts himself with a chuckle, "I suppose it makes the next part easier, I hope you understand, I hope that you see it the way I do so that in your death you will transcend. Or otherwise... you will die ignorant to its beauty," he then chuckles, "I do hope you survive before they find you - otherwise, this would all be wasted potential."

The door shuts behind him. Leaving the two of us alone in the room and not a moment later Akane has already started shifting in place but he is useless without a catalyst. I am useless as I am right now.

"We have to-"

"Akane..."

"We need to get a way out of here-"

"Akane..." he looks at me with a bewildered stare. "I need you to focus and try to channel magic without a catalyst. Only way we can get out of here... I am afraid I have nothing more to give."

"Can't you-" he whimpers.

"I can't," I shake my head. "He knows how it works and knows how to stop me from using it," my arms are twitching I think it is being infused with electricity but my nerve endings are so numb I can't feel it at all.

He then starts to focus on it, while I lay here limp and useless. If they don't come for us I die from disease or blood loss... maybe even thirst. I don't know what is worse... Akane still has some energy and if he manages to do something we can maybe...

But even then I am just a corpse ready to slow him down.

"What does he mean... are they going to choose between us?"

"I don't know," I do know.

"Then what could it mean?"

"Just... focus," I beg him.

One of us will probably die no matter what. If I don't die then that means both he and my mother die. If I die she wouldn't have to worry about protecting me but as long as he doesn't know that then maybe someone will save him and just kill me.

I already feel dead.

Man.

I don't want to die like this.
