Harley was grieving her god mother with her mother. I didn't bring it up, but more than once I would hear her crying behind a closed door. I wouldn't allow that for long and would hold her. She'd mentioned more than once how she hated I saw her like this, and I reminded her I wouldn't be there still if it bothered me. In truth, I was happy to be the person who gave her reprieve in one way or another.

She was spending a lot of time at TM, which meant I didn't have to be watching over her constantly and more at Clay's disposal. That eased up some shit for me, or so you would think. He still watched me; well aware something was up. It made me nervous what was going through his head.

In wake of Luanne's death, her business wasn't long behind. The warehouse, home of Caracara was now a smoking pile of charcoal and Jax was pissed. He was convinced this was Clay. He was never a real fan of the porn racket. Not sure if it was the internal feud with Jax, or he was tired of the distraction it brought to the club, but he'd been looking for an out. This was the straw that broke the camel's back for Jax.

"I'm going nomad" he told me. Fuck.

Jax was the VP I wanted to take the gavel eventually. His outlook on day-to-day practice and future visions of the club were something I could get behind. Meanwhile, Clay and I weren't exactly seeing eye to eye.

"You think that's a good idea?" I asked, wanting to change his mind, but not overstepping.

"I'm only hurting the club by staying" he shook his head. "Clay is president and I undermine him at every turn."

"I stand by my previous question" I nodded, maybe showing my hand a little more than I should have.

Jax sighed, without giving me an answer, and I suspected I wouldn't get one.

"You tell your family yet" I asked? This was a big tell he'd just given me and considering my position, my several positions with his sister, I was hoping his announcement would come sooner rather than later.

"Not yet" he sighed. "I need to tell Tara first. Then flip a coin which one will overreact. Monsoon mother or hurricane Harley."

"I'm beggin ya to tell Harley sooner rather than later" I shook my head.

Jax examined me for a second and smirked. "I just put you between a rock and a hard place didn't I" he asked me?

"Kinda" I nodded, finally giving him something.

"Bout time you admitted it" He nodded to me.

"Yeah well, I'm not sure what it is" I nodded. "But I know I could be in shit for this."

"Vote is tonight" he nodded. "She's gonna know soon enough."

I looked across the parking lot where she'd just come out of the TM office for a smoke. "Yeah" I sighed.

Jax grinned at me and patted me on the shoulder, "I'll catch you later man."

I looked at Harley for another second before she noticed me and grinned in my direction. Jax had just screwed me over, hadn't he?

He took off to get a proxy vote from Juice in the hospital. I headed up to the clubhouse where she stood.

"Nice chat with my brother" she asked him?

"I guess" I told her. "Club business."

If someone made this comment to Gemma, they would be put in their place quickly. Gemma didn't wear a cut, but you'd be damned if you ever told her she wasn't part of the club, though the truth was she was an old lady and should not have been. Harley was different. Every bit as fierce as her mother, but she respected the hierarchy of the club. That was the only thing that would save me in this.
