1985:

Jordan is a sophomore in high school, he has been a member of a boyband for a year now, but they haven't hit it big yet.

They practice and have almost finished recording their first album. Jordan walks into school, and he sees the prettiest girl he has ever laid eyes on.

She is redheaded and has hazel eyes. He stops in the middle of the hall, and two of his friends literally just run right into him.

"Jordan, dude, why did you stop?" Steve asks.

"I must have died and gone to heaven because there is an angel standing right over there." She looks up at the three guys and smiles.

All of the guys look in the direction he is pointing, and they all smile at the pretty redhead. "No, Jordan, just freshman year and lots of new hotties to look at this year." Says Brent, who claps his hand on Jordan's back and drags him down the hall.

Jordan turns his head and looks at her until she walks down the opposite hallway.

By the end of the day, he had three classes with the prettiest redhead he has ever seen. He walks outside, and she is standing there by herself.

He clears his throat and walks over to her, "Um, hello, my name is Jordan; welcome to English High. What school are you coming from?"

"Hi, I'm Stephanie, I, um, just moved here from Tennessee." She said shyly as she looked down.

"Oh, so you are completely new to Boston. That's cool, Tennessee; that's a far move. How ya likin Boston so far?"

"Yep, yea, I guess. It's okay, I reckon. I miss my friends, tho not easy being in a new town when you don't know anyone."

"I'm sure you do, and I can understand that. I mean, this is my second year here, but there are several people I attended Middle school and some even elementary school with. I couldn't imagine, but now you know me, and we have a few classes together."

"Yea, well, Jordan, it was nice to meet you. I will see you tomorrow."

"Bye, Stephanie, see ya tomorrow." He walked one way, and she walked the other. He had to walk to the subway to ride it back to Dorchester.

He had to go to band practice tonight, they would be in the studio all weekend. He had to get back in the groove of school and early mornings. He had spent all summer with Maurice and the other guys trying to get songs recorded.

It was only the first day back, and he was exhausted. He wasn't even sure if this band thing was going to work.

His older brother Jonathan and two guys he went to elementary school with, Danny and Donnie,  were in the band, and then this little kid who was barely a teenager filled Jamie Kelly's spot, which Jamie filled when Mark, who is Donnie's brother's spot. Since he quit, he was too interested in hanging with the bad crowd than being in the band. Yet, Jamie refused to show up half the time, so Maurice found Joey. So, the band now consists of Donnie, Danny, Jon, Joey, and myself.

That put us in a tough spot when he quit, but then Maurice found this young kid from Jamaica Plains. He sings good he's just so young. So, we are recording our first album now, and hopefully, it will take off, and we can get some airtime, but who knows?

He goes home and gets his homework done before Maurice gets there, and he had just finished when he heard the horn beep. He kisses his mother on the cheek as he runs out to the car with Jon.

We get to the studio, and we are learning dance moves, I have been trying to get them choreographed and taught to the guys.

None of us liked the band name Nynuk; what does that even mean? Maurice got New Edition started, so we are hoping that he can do the same for us. Thankfully the record company didn't like the name, and we changed it to New Kids on The Block after a rap song that Donnie helped write.

The music he has us singing is R&B, but it doesn't fit us. It's bad to say, but I kinda hope this album flops so we can write better songs that fit us more than what he has us singing right now.

We performed at a talent show at Joseph Lee school and then at the Kite festival in Franklin Park, and they booed us and threw rocks at us that sucked.

After we signed the record deal, we performed at The Boston Harbour at a prison. That wasn't fun, but we did it. I would love to be famous, beautiful girls throwing themselves at us. That would be so cool.

The album will be released sometime next year. We have only recorded a couple of songs, we have several more to finish.

I am glad that Maurice is going out of town so I can break dance and go to the skate park. My days have been filled with practicing and coming up with dances to teach the other guys.

I am going to the mall with my friends next weekend. This weekend we have to record, but Maurice leaves Sunday, so I made plans with Brent and Steve to hang out.

Danny and I break dance together sometimes when he's able to hang out. I am the youngest of five kids; my older sisters, Sharon and Allison, are married, then Dave, Chris, and Jon are my older brothers.

Sometimes being the baby is rough, but other times, it's good. I get spoiled by my parents. My brother Chris is adopted, Mom and Dad adopted him before I was even born.

My dad is an Episcopal priest, and both of my parents are Canadian. We have a huge house, but there are always foster kids in our home. So, I share a room with Jon sometimes, he gets his own room when we don't have any foster kids here.

Finally, we are finished with practice today, I can go home and lie down in bed. I am exhausted, now I can spend my time thinking of the new girl Stephanie.

Maurice drives us all home and drops us off. We all live in Dorchester except for Joey. Maurice drops him off first, then Donnie and Danny cause they live close, and lastly, he drops Jon and me off.

We aren't able to practice on church nights, I rest a little, but not much because we are in the church choir. So, my voice never gets rest except when I'm at school.

I go in and lay down in bed, I am thinking of Stephanie. She is so pretty, and her accent is kinda sexy with her southern twang. Before I realize it, I drifted off to sleep. I even dreamed about her and I dating and maybe even getting married.

One week later:

Maurice has been out of town, so I have actually been able to have a life. I have talked to Stephanie a few times; she even sat at my lunch table yesterday. I introduced her to Steve and Brent.

I asked her on a date Friday, she said yes. We are going to the mall and the movies. I am really excited to go out with her. Even tho I am really nervous because this will be my first date. I haven't even kissed a girl yet.

I was bullied a lot in middle school. It would be so cool to become famous and laugh at the people who always picked on me. They make fun of me for being in a boyband, they have called us gay, and ask me which one is my boyfriend.

It pisses me off because we might make it big, then who will be laughing. I laugh as I think of that, and then all those kids that picked on me will be coming out trying to say they were my best friends. Nope, I will make sure they don't lie.
