Two weeks later:
They had moved Steph to a regular room two days after she woke up. She has been improving, her leg is healing well, and her cast was removed from her arm yesterday.
Her ribs are still wrapped but seem to be healing well. The orthopedic doctor went in three days ago and removed the steel plates and screws from her leg. It is healing as well as can be expected with the way it was broken.
Every day she is improving, and the doctor said she may get to go home today. She can walk with crutches, but with her ribs, it's hard for her to use the crutches, so Joe carries her to the bathroom.
He helped her take a shower, and she was trying to get him to sleep with her. He kept telling her to stop; she needed to get better.
She had been trying to sleep with him all week, and he kept telling her no. "Steph, you almost died, you have broken bones, and you had surgery. Isn't the guy normally supposed to be the one trying? I want to wait until you are better."
"Well, you haven't been trying, so I had to make moves."
"Steph, you almost died. Making love is the last thing on my mind. Taking care of you and making sure you get better is my only concern right now."
"Well, that might help me get better. It's been so long, one week before the accident, three weeks I was in a coma, and now another week since I woke up."
"I know how long it has been, babe. Trust me, I do, but we have to let your body heal. I promise when you are healed up, I am going to blow your mind."
"Baby, that could be a couple more months. I don't think I can wait that long. Jordan wouldn't be turning me down."
"We will wait as long as we need to. I have to ensure you are okay. I'm not Jordan. I care about you, not my needs. If you think for a second this isn't hard on me, then you are wrong, but I care more about you than pleasing myself. Baby, you have six broken ribs and a broken collar bone. Thankfully your fractured neck has healed, and your leg was broken in three places."
"I know that, Joe. Trust me, I know all of my injuries; I feel them. I am the one that was injured. I didn't mean to say that about Jordan I wasn't comparing you to Jordan, and I don't want you to think I was. You have treated me so much better than Jordan did. You have always put me first."
"I know what you meant, and that is why I said what I did. Yes, Jordan would have been fucking you the minute you showed interest because it's all about him and what he wants. I want you, but I am not going to make love until the doctor clears you. You are lucky those broken ribs didn't puncture your lung or heart."
"I know; I'm sorry, Joe."
He lifted her chin with his finger, "No, you will not apologize for telling me what you want or need, but just understand I am only saying no because it's what's best for you and only you."
He helped her dry off and put her clothes on. He brushed her hair as she sat on the bed. The doctors were able to shave her hair so when she placed the top layer over, it wasn't so visible.
"Make sure to cover my bald spot. I have a bald spot, and now with that scar, my hair won't grow back properly in that spot."
"Hey, that bald spot is sexy. That bald spot saved your life, and I will shave a bald spot to match yours if you want me to."
"You are not shaving your luscious head of hair. You would really do that, wouldn't you?"
"Of course, I would shave a spot in my hair to match yours. I will do it right now."
