Dave and Jon drove over to her house. The living room light is still on, and they knock on the door; it's eight thirty.
Stephanie is sitting on the couch, curled up to a pillow crying her eyes out. When someone knocks on her door, it's late. Who could that be? Jordan should be home way before now.
She walks to the door and peeps out the hole, and she sees Jon and Dave. Thank goodness she is dressed in her pajamas. She wipes her face and opened the door.
"Hey guys, what are you doing here? Is everything okay? I mean, it's late, and both of you together?"
"Hey, Steph," Jon said as he kissed the top of her head.
"Yea, everything is fine. We just left Jordan's, and I mentioned I was gonna stop by and check on you. I have been busy, so haven't made it by all week. Jon asked if he could ride, and so here we are. Look, how lucky you are, two Knights coming to check on our favorite girl."
"Aww, thanks, guys. They sat down on the couch with Dave on one end and Jon on the other, and Steph in the middle. Has anyone ever told you how intimidating sitting between two Knight brothers is?"
"No, you shouldn't be intimated by us. We are family, and no matter what, we always will be, even after the divorce is final. How are you holding up? Your eyes are a little puffy looks like you have been crying." Dave asked sincerely.
"Can't ever hide anything from you two. I'm doing okay, missing the kids, missing Jordan. This house just feels so empty."
"We can't even imagine what you are going through. It's Jordan's loss, not yours. You did what you felt you needed to, and we commend you for not taking his crap. Don't get us wrong, we love our brother, but he's an idiot not to choose you and your kids," Jon said.
"Thanks, guys. I know this is hard for you all too. You are trying to make me not feel alone but also trying to stand by Jordan because he's your family. I appreciate everything you both have done for me. I really do, and I love how much you both love my kids. It's just so hard the first night when the kids are gone."
"Well, how about we make it easier, when Jordan picks the kids up, Jon and I will take you out to dinner and come back and chill with you until you are ready for bed. Sound like a plan?" Dave asked.
"Don't you stay with the kids when Jordan runs errands, Jon?"
"I do, but I will just tell him I'm no longer available on the first night he has them."
"Okay, then great, that sounds nice; it's a date." She smiled nervously, and Jon and Dave just smiled at each other.
They sat there talking and laughing. Stephanie had laughed so hard she was crying at Dave being goofy. They finally got up to head home.
She walked them both to the door and hugged them. "Take care of yourself, Steph. I mean that. We will see you next week; I love you, sis."
"Thanks, Dave can't wait, and I love you too."
"I will be by on Monday to visit both my favorite girls and to check and make sure you are doing okay after the court hearing. Love, you sis and best friend."
"Okay, Jon, thanks for everything and love you too. You be careful getting home, both of you." She waved as they walked to Dave's SUV. Then she shut the door and sat down.
Well, Jordan won't be coming over anymore since they will be taking me out and sitting with me. Maybe that's a good thing. Jordan and I sleeping together isn't good for us. We are still too emotionally connected to each other.
She locked the door, turned off the living room light, and went to her room. She laid down and drifted off to sleep. She missed him like crazy, but she needed to move forward, and their sleeping together was holding her back.
