Saratoga Springs, June 24, 1990:
Jordan and Stephanie had been together now for almost four years, with a three-month separation their senior year.
They were engaged, and they had bought a house together. Jordan was stressing over this long tour. This was just the second leg of the tour. It was supposed to be the last part, and then three months and back home.
They will be coming back home, but only for six weeks again, then they will tour for almost two months from October until four days before Christmas. They will come home for five weeks then they are going overseas.
From January 31st until December 12th. Coming home in June and leaving back out in November. He knew Stephanie would be upset.
Maurice gave them the schedule when they arrived at the tour bus before he was working on getting it scheduled.
They could get married during the four-month break, but then he has to tour again from November to December with a four-week break for the holidays.
Their final part of the tour would be January 15th, and they would conclude the tour on February 25th.
That means in a year and nine months, he will be home for a little over six months and gone for an entire year and three months.
He had to tell her tonight, he knew he did, but he was so afraid that she would end their relationship.
He sat there contemplating if he should tell her now or when he returned in September. He was going to ask her to join him for the first part of the No More Games tour.
Jon saw how stressed Jordan was, and he walked over and patted him on the shoulder, "What's up, bro?"
"This fucking schedule is crazy, dude. I am engaged to be married, and he has given me no time to plan a wedding and get married; we are booked all the way until damn February of 92'."
"Few weeks here and there to go home and then four months off, then here we go again, Sweden. This schedule is crazy, there is no way Stephanie is going to be okay with this."
"I know, J, but Maurice said he had to schedule the dates so they could start selling tickets while we are still hot. After February of 92' we have nothing, and he better not schedule anything either. If you get married during the four-month break, then bring her with you on a honeymoon trip."
"Yea, if she doesn't dump my ass before I get her to the alter. That is my biggest fear is that I am going to lose the best thing that has ever happened to me because of my career. Next tour, we will have a big enough name that we can put our foot down and not let Maurice make all the decisions for us."
"I agree, and she loves you, J. Look, just be honest with her as soon as possible. That way, she can get used to the idea of being separated for that long."
"I am going to tell her at the Saratoga show. I need to see her before the show, I think I am gonna ask her to come early so we can talk between sound check and the show. Maybe you guys could stay away from the bus so we can have a little time together before the show."
"I gotcha. I will stay clear of the bus until after the show, I will talk to Danny. You can talk to Donnie and Little Joey-Joe about staying away."
"Thanks, man; I love you, bro."
"I love you too, and you're welcome, little bro."
Two days later:
Tonight is the show the guys had agreed to stay away from the bus to give Jordan and Stephanie time alone. She would be arriving any minute, she said they were gonna grab lunch, and she would have the girls drop her off, and they could find something to do until showtime.
