Joe, Griff, Kira, and I went to Hawaii on vacation. Stefan and Michelle had already returned to college. Stefan went to Yale, not far from us, but he moved into his dorm last week.
We rented an Ocean Villa to just enjoy with our kids. This is the first vacation we have been on without Michelle and Stefan. It feels weird not to have all four of my kids. Now the only kids we have in the house are mine and Joe's, and we only have six more years with them.
Joe and the guys did their concert in Maryland and Boston, and now we have nothing more until the tour next May.
Joe and I haven't been apart since before Covid hit, so I don't know how we are going to deal with the three weeks separation when the tour kicks off. Over two years, we haven't been separated.
Joe was on Broadway; he did a few shows and just made the drive. We hate to be separated from each other, and this is the longest we have been without having to be apart since the first tour in 2008.
We arrived at our Villa, and Joe being the romantic guy he is, picked me up and carried me inside; the kids just laughed at him.
"What? Why are you two laughing?"
"Because you are carrying Mama inside the house," Griff said.
"She can walk, Daddy. You're silly," Kira said.
"Yes, I know she can walk, and one day both of you will see that it is a romantic gesture. Griff learn how to treat a woman, and Kira learn how you are to be treated by a man. Your mother and I are your role models, so pay close attention."
"That's right, your Daddy is a great Role Model in teaching you both how to treat your husband or wife and how you should be treated by your partner."
"I'm never getting married; girls are gross," Griff stated.
"Me either; boys are nasty. They sweat and smell bad," Kira said.
"You say that now but just wait. Both of you are starting Middle school, and you will change your mind, trust me. Michelle met Lukas in high school, and I remember her saying the same thing. Stefan had a few girlfriends, but none he was serious about, but one day you will meet the person who is your soulmate just like your Dad is mine. Because your Dad is younger than me, I never thought of him in a romantic way. Then it hit me, and we have been madly in love ever since."
"I can't say the same thing because, well, I was in love with your mom for a very long time before she ever looked at me like that. She is right; one day, you will meet someone who isn't gross and a boy who you don't care about him sweating. Many years from now is fine with me, but it will happen. Just like even after fourteen years of being married, your Mama still gives me butterflies. She is my soulmate and my best friend, she is my everything."
"Was that when Mom was with Uncle Jordan?" Kira asked.
"That must be weird, you and him both being married to the same woman and sharing kids with her," Griff said.
"It was at first, but now it's fine. He has always been in love with your Mom, and he wasn't very welcoming to the idea of me and her being together. We talked it out, and he knows we are madly in love and that I would do anything for her."
"Yea, he has always been good to us, but we are happy that you are married to Dad instead of Uncle Jordan. You are always happy and smiling and being gross with each other. All the kissing and touching," Kira stated.
"We think so, too. We are very happy, and it's hard not to touch and kiss your father. We are in love, and that is what love does to you." Joey leaned in and kissed her.
