February 1, 2008:

Joey had taken the kids to school, and Stephanie wasn't feeling good. He got them up, fed them breakfast, packed their lunches, got them dressed, and took them to school.

Joey returned home, and he heard Stephanie crying; he ran upstairs, and she was curled in a fetal position in bed. She was crying and holding her stomach.

"We are going to the emergency room right now." He scooped her up and carried her downstairs. He carried her to the car and sat her down in the passenger seat, locked the front door, and climbed in.

He drove to the hospital as fast as he could and as safely as he could. He was freaking out, not knowing what was going on with her.

"Baby, what is hurting exactly?"

"My stomach and my vagina feels like pressure, and the pain is unbearable. Joey, it hurts so bad, almost as bad as it did when I gave birth to the kids."

"Could I have done something wrong when we made love, could I have hurt you?"

"No, it started at like four this morning. I was fine after we made love, and besides, you weren't rough last night. I don't know why it is hurting, but it's enough to make me cry."

"Okay, baby, we are going to figure out what's wrong; we are almost to the emergency room." He turned at the red light and went to the next block, and turned into the emergency room parking. He jumped out and picked her up as she wrapped her arms around his neck. He walked into the hospital.

"I need some help, my wife is really sick."

A nurse jumped up and ran around, "what's going on?"

"She is saying her stomach hurts, and she feels pressure in her private area, she said it's worse than when she delivered the kids. Please, just help her."

"Okay," she pushed a button for the back, and she lead them into another area. "Is she running a fever?"

"Maybe she feels hot, and she is sweaty."

The nurse leads them to a room with a big light on the ceiling. Joey lays her down on the bed. The nurse leaves, and a doctor comes back in behind her. She is still crying hysterically.

He presses on her stomach in one area, and she screams really loudly. He looks at Joey, "How long has this been going on?"

"She said it started around four this morning, but she wasn't curled up and crying when I took the kids to school. This started about an hour ago or less. As soon as I returned and heard her crying, we left the house like three minutes later. What's wrong with her?"

"Does she still have her appendix?"

"I think so, oh no."

"I believe she has appendicitis, I am going to take her for a CT scan, and if it has ruptured, we will take her to surgery immediately. Fill out her paperwork, and someone will call you and update you as soon as we can."

He leaned over her bed and kissed her, I love you, baby. I will be right here waiting for you."

"I love you, Joey." She was wheeled out, and he stood there watching her. He wiped a tear as it slid down his cheek. He needed to go move his car, fill out her paperwork, and make a few calls.

He grabbed the paperwork and stepped out to move his car. He parked his car and filled out the paperwork. He turned it in just as his phone rang, and he answered, "Hello."

"Is this Mr. McIntyre?"

"Yes, it is."

"Hello, Mr. McIntyre. This is Cindy, a nurse at BID Milton Hospital. I just wanted to update you on what is going on with your wife, Stephanie. Her appendix has ruptured, and she was taken into emergency surgery about five minutes ago. They are performing the surgery on the surgical floor, they did have to cut her clothes off to get her in a gown. So you will need to get her more clothes. Surgery should last about an hour. Someone will call to inform you on how she is doing about midway through the surgery. Do you have any questions for me?"
