Mune Olo'eyktan [Neteyam x Aonung]

Part 34

Back in the clearing, Aonung returns to the Sullys' hut, but only finds Tuktirey and his sister.

Tuktirey lies asleep, while Tsireya collects the necklaces they made, and cleans the small mess.

Tsireya- How are you?

Aonung- Better. Where is everyone?

Tsireya- Kiri is still out with Mo'dan, and the other three went off to do something.

Aonung immediately grows suspicious of his sister's lack of specifics in the end of her sentence.

Aonung- Something like what?

She looks up at him, fearful of what the other boys might be getting themselves into.

This look is all it takes for Aonung to rush out of the hut, and straight into the forest. Hoping to catch them before they do anything, he runs as fast as he can, while also wishing he could swing on vines like Rotxo to go faster.

Once he's able to hear the sounds of the battle happening on the beach, he looks around frantically. Looking up at the trees, and behind every trunk.

He starts calling Neteyam's name, until he hears sloppy movement in the bush.

He turns around and sees a human jump out from behind a tree, aiming a weapon at him. But before the man can use it, a blur of blue falls from above and tackles him to the ground.

Lo'ak stands up, taking a breath after ending the man's life.

Another human falls from a nearby tree, already dead, then Rotxo lands after them.

Rotxo- That the last one?

Lo'ak- Yeah.

Both boys seem to not even notice Aonung standing there. Until a hand turns the marine boy around, and he's suddenly looking at Neteyam.

Neteyam- What are you doing here?

The other two run over to them.

Aonung- Me? What are you doing here? Your father told us to stay out of it.

Neteyam- If it weren't for us, those men would have reached the clearing.

A sudden roar of gunshots sounds, interrupting their conversation. A bunch of Metkayina warriors start running through the trees towards them. Aonung and Rotxo both have the same look.

Rotxo- What's going on?

Soon, Jake Sully runs out from amongst the warriors and straight up to the young boys.

Jake- What the hell are you doing out here?!

Neteyam- We were-

Jake- Forget it, just run! Go!

Just as the boys follow Jake's lead, running further into the forest, a close explosion blows. Lunging them, and other warriors, in different directions.

Following the explosions is another round of gunshots.

Jake pulls himself off the ground, and shakes the dizziness out of his head, having been flung into a tree.

He looks around for the young boys, and spots Lo'ak standing up. Quickly he runs over to the boy, checking him, and he turns out to be fine.

He looks around for his other son, while Lo'ak spots Rotxo and helps him up.

When they hear humans coming towards them, Jake quickly ushers the other two up into a tree. Each of them climbs high enough to be out of sight, then they sit quietly.
