Later on, back in the village on the beach, Tsireya spars lightly with her own teacher, using double bladed spears. She's gotten the basics down, but Na'haji can tell she has no violent fire within her.
Sure she learns what he teaches well, but only because she has to, and even in such a rough skill, she still manages to keep her unique softness.
In short; She's no killer.
Unfortunately, for a warrior, and even more, a leader, that trait could potentially be fatal. He isn't sure what to do about it. If she's to be as good as they need her to be, she'll need to sacrifice some of her generosity, but at the same time, Na'haji finds himself liking the girl's eternal kindness, though not in a romantic way.
The two have sparred many times in the past few months, and only recently have some of their practices ended in a tie, like now.
Tsireya's blade is held at Na'haji's stomach, while his blade is held at her neck. With heavy breaths, they hold their weapons down, and Tsireya looks up at him, awaiting his criticism.
Na'haji- It took you half the time it did last week. You are improving quickly. Perhaps you focus better without your human friend around.
Tsireya- You think so? I thought his encouragement was helpful.
Na'haji- You liked it, but that does not mean it actually helped. It's noon, we should break for lunch.
She nods in response and hands her spear to Na'haji so he can set it on the rack of weapons they practice with. Usually this is the point where she would leave to eat with her friends, then return later, but she feels differently today.
Tsireya- I noticed you aren't very fond of Spider. Is it because he's human?
After straightening a few weapons, he turns to face her.
In truth, he has no problem with the human boy. In fact, he thinks their friendship is quite cute, but when it comes to his brother's plan, Spider is a hindrance. Tsireya must become strong, quickly, and must also become his.
The more he gets to know her, the more using her this way doesn't sit well with him, but he could never tell Yune that. His brother has gone to this length just to keep him safe; The boy's lost one family member and he doesn't want to lose another one.
However, there's no rule that says he can't be truthful with Tsireya.
Na'haji- I have no problem with him, I just want what's best for your training.
Tsireya- Don't stress over it, you're a great teacher.
She smiles at him, and he involuntarily does the same, which makes her ears perk up.
Tsireya- So you can smile.
He quickly straightens his face, trying to remain stoic as Yune wants him to.
Tsireya- Don't hide it away. You're starting to remind me of my brother.
Aonung; He's the one that was meant to be drawn in by a tough exterior similar to his own, but what of his sister?
Na'haji- So, that's a bad thing then?
Tsireya- Well, it's not the best. I'm waiting for the day Neteyam gets him to start smiling again.
Of course she wants to see her brother smile, and look happy. Who wouldn't want that for their siblings?
Na'haji- I too await the day my brother looks happy again.
Tsireya looks at him a bit surprised. She's tried before, but could never get him to talk about himself.
Na'haji- I suppose, until then, I could smile for him.
Tsireya- You know, some people may think acting all tough and heartless is impressive, but I prefer the softer side. I knew you were nice.
Na'haji- Do you prefer me like this?
Tsireya- Yeah.
Na'haji- Then I will remain this way.
