Chapter Forty Four

Pitch black.

That's all I can see.

Black.

I can't see the roof.

I can't see the walls.

I can't see anything at all.

The only thing I am aware of is a pair of strong arms placed securely around my waist. The only thing that is offering me any comfort is those strong arms.

I can feel someone move next to me, the arms moving slightly. I feel something soft and warm on my forehead before it is gone again and I have no clue what it was.

I can hear someone start to hum slightly, the noise comforting and beautiful. The humming continues, a familiar tune being made from the noise.

I try to turn my head to find the source of the noise but I still can't see anything. As I move my head, the humming abruptly ceases, the familiar sound of quiet lulling over me.

"Baby girl. Are you awake?" a deep voice whispers.

Am I awake? It's then that I realise I have my eyes closed. It's then I realise that I had been asleep. I let my eyes slowly flutter open to see Ashton looking at me with his hazel eyes.

"Hey you," he says, a small smile on his face.

"Hey," I mumble quietly.

"You fell asleep Mil. Guess how long you were asleep for?" he mumbles excitedly.

"How long?" I ask.

"Ten hours," he says proudly.

"Ten hours? I slept for ten hours?" I ask surprised. I haven't slept anywhere near that long in at least a few months.

"Yep, ten hours. I proud of you baby girl," he says while pressing a kiss to my forehead.

I continue to lay there, staring at the wall in shock. The most amount of sleep I have gotten on my own since the operation is four and a half hours. No where in there have I ever gotten near ten hours.

"Thank you Ash," I mumble, still shocked.

"Why are you thanking me?" he questions.

"Since my operation, I haven't been able to get more then four and a half hours of sleep on my own, without taking sleeping medicine. And then, you come in and I sleep for ten hours straight. Coincidence? I think not."

"You think it was me that helped you sleep?" he mutters.
