Once Rhea had woken up from her slumber, it was quite easy to move from one room to another to meet with a Matron Healer. It was Alphard's first time meeting with anyone in the realm of the fertility world—Though he did take Rhea to one of those witchy Healers prior, but it left him wondering if this was similar in any case.
The meeting had gone fantastic, and no question had gone unanswered. It had been an utter blessing, in addition to the fact that after a few blood tests and filling out the forms, they were able to schedule the earliest treatments.
It could have happened a bit earlier, though Alfie had taken the fact that Rhea already had a cleansed body that didn't set them back another week or more in the grand scheme of things.
He, however, would not have to prepare anything. The most he had to do was buck up the courage to climax in a vial, as Rhea so kindly put it. He wasn't too excited about that, but the fact that Rhea needed to be admitted overnight, given a few tonics to pass through her system—And then be put into surgery.
It was giving him heart palpitations just thinking about it now. Yet Rhea had been nothing but a trooper, even going so far as to say she was excited.
"We're going to be pregnant, Alfie. A little excitement won't hurt either of us." She reminded, and he sighed as he came closer to her newfound reading—A witch's kind to motherhood.
"What sort of rubbish is that?"
"It's not rubbish Mister 'I read witch weekly to be young,' I'm trying to get a better understanding of what I'm in for." He supposed he should as well, and thus the two managed to enjoy one of their final nights together before one of the biggest changes they could have decided for themselves. So why was he sweating with nerves when a child wouldn't be here for months—Besides the fact that his tonics were cruel in their side effects, he truly did believe that things were slowly shifting regardless of the idea of a babe.
He had only felt this way once, and that was what brought him to his wife's room the night before their wedding. Nearly throwing away any and all sorts of traditions to not see the bride before their time at the alter.
Instead, he was thankful that they were able to book the suite once more, so Rhea would have the utmost comfort and he would be able to stay.
When morning finally came, he was surprised that Rhea had not been in bed beside him—And instead was nursing a foul-smelling tea beside the book they had been reading together last night.
"Good morning, mum." He whispered, bending down to kiss her temple and she simply laughed. "Tomorrow you can say that, today I'm just—"
"That sounds like technicalities. Anything new in that book of yours?"
"Yes, in fact. I think I have plenty of new fears. Did you know your spine could break during childbirth?" Every fiber of Alphard's being had stilled as he turned to his wife."Please, I beg you, tell me that is not true."
"I can't, not when it's happened more than once. There is nothing pretty about pregnancy, Alfie. I know we haven't been to many public outings since...For a while. But I have the feeling we have to flaunt this, and I'm not sure if I can manage to be nice while my ankles are swelling with pain."
"Then we go in and then we leave, simple as that. But not before we snack." Rhea snorted and began to chug the better half of her tea. "What is that?"
"Prescription, hoping that I won't have too much pain afterward. But at least this is much easier on your body than anything else."
