Try not to die•••••••
"You okay?"
Edmund looked up, realising he'd gone to grab Peter's sword but had just been staring at it for the last few minutes. "Yeah." He breathed, finally picking it up and turning back to face his brother.
Peter was dressed in full armour, ready to take on Miraz in single combat, and Edmund couldn't deny that his heart was beating way too fast for him to focus.
"Are you sure?" Peter questioned, looking unsure. "You're looking a bit peaky."
Edmund swallowed hard. "You know I've never liked you fighting single combat." He said quietly, adding a small shrug.
Peter hesitated a little. "I'll be fine." He murmured.
Edmund didn't look too sure. "Just, try not to die yeah?" He breathed. "I don't think I could handle that."
Peter actually smiled weakly at this, and nodded a little. "I'll try not to." He promised. "Only if you try not to pass out the second I begin fighting."
Edmund swallowed hard again, blinking to try and keep his vision in focus. "No promises there." He whispered, voice choked.
Peter frowned. "Ed?" He murmured, stepping forward.
Edmund didn't really have any recollection of what happened next, but suddenly he was laying on the floor, both Peter and Susan's faces hovering above him, concern etched into their features.
"Oh thank Aslan." Peter sighed, running a hand through his hair.
Edmund was pulled to his feet after a moment or two, and gripped Peter's arm to steady himself.
"What happened?" He asked quietly.
"You passed out." Peter told him. "The second I tell you not to pass out, you pass out."
Edmund smiled a little. "You know I never do as I'm told." He murmured.
"You okay?" Susan questioned.
Edmund nodded. "Yeah," He took a deep breath, grounding himself. "I'm okay."
"You sure you wanna be out there?" Peter asked.
Edmund nodded firmly. "Yes." He said, and there was no hesitation in his voice. "I'm not leaving you."
Peter stared at his brother, an unspoken thank you clear in his eyes.
Edmund just nodded at him. "Just be careful." He whispered.
Peter nodded back. "I will," He replied. "Don't worry."
