June 1st
I've never seen him like this

"So..."

Peter glanced up.

"Did you speak to him?"

He sighed a little, staring at his sister who slowly came and sat next to him, leaning against the tree and patiently waiting for an answer.

"I did." Peter murmured after a moment.

Susan nodded slowly. "You were in there for a while." She pointed out.

Peter swallowed hard. "Yeah, um-" He hesitated. "He needed help, so I um- sorry, I said I wouldn't tell anyone."

Susan's heart pounded but she nodded her head. "That's okay." She whispered, voice choked at the thought of her little brother being so badly hurt he didn't want anyone to know.

Peter sighed, lowering his gaze to the ground. "I've never seen him like this before." He whispered. "He was so quiet, so apologetic, so quick to do everything I told him to. He never argued with me, and he'd get scared if I moved abruptly or spoke out of nowhere. One time I raised my hand to put it on his shoulder and he actually flinched away from me."

Susan took a deep, shaky breath, trying to force back her tears. "He's - He's been through a lot over the last few days hasn't he." She murmured.

Peter could only nod.

"So we're gonna help him through it." Susan added firmly when her brother didn't say anything. "It doesn't matter what he's done, he still deserves our love."

Peter nodded again. "Yeah." He choked out.

Susan was silent for a moment. "Is he sleeping?" She asked.

Peter actually smiled fondly, if only a little, at this. "Out like a light." He replied.

Susan returned the smile. "Bless him." She whispered. "But I expect he'll be hungry when he wakes up, so I'll make sure breakfast is ready for him to eat straight away."

"Thanks." Peter murmured. "I'm gonna go back I think, I only stepped out here to clear my head."

"Of course," Susan breathed. "I'll come and see you later."

Peter nodded. "Bye."
