Liam POV

Jax didn't budge one inch from Maverick trying to force his submission. After all he only submitted to me when he wanted to. Being his Alpha made his wolf want to more often than he liked, but not right now.

"I'm done with this Liam. Have your mating whore and have your Luna, but you will be finding a new Beta. Release me!" He demanded.

I stumbled back at his words. I would never let him go. "No!" I growled back at him.

"If you make her your Luna I will break our bond. I don't care how much it will hurt our pack. Either let me go or I will force you too." He stormed out my office, slamming my door behind him.

"Fuck!" I roared, sending my chair threw my window. I knew I would have to let him go eventually. I had to make Lindsey my Luna. Losing my best friend would be devastating, but losing my pack would be unthinkable. I couldn't sacrifice their lives for my own selfish needs.

Lindsey was smart, witty, and already showed me she could be a Luna my pack needed. This was the way it had to be. Maverick took control staring long and deep in the forest outside. I jumped through my broken window needing to hunt a prey.

Another week passed but nothing changed, except I was a new level of lethal. Pack members didn't just freeze in fear around me, they ran. I left most of the pack's request for Lindsey to handle since my office was practically empty anyways. People were too afraid to look at me let alone ask for anything. I only yelled at a few of them, maybe threaten a long death if they continued to annoy me, but it was just all talk. I wouldn't harm them, not like before.

Against Jax's approval I had one of the rooms setup as an office for Lindsey. It was just big enough for a desk and small sitting table so I don't know what the fuss was about. Plus, she was able to contend to the pack without them having to see me. I think it was a win win all around. Jax didn't see it that way though.

It was now Monday and I promised to come into the office to sign some papers. I wanted to tell Jax to fuck off, but I dug enough of a hole with him lately. I never knew it would turn out to be so exciting. The relief I so desperately needed.

Most of the staff were omegas mixed with a few zetas. He had one hybrid teenager working as a file clerk. Everyone knew it was only a matter of time before that boy combust. If anything magical happened around humans that we couldn't explain it could be our heads from Demetrius.

Jax has been running businesses in their world for six years without so much of a peep. I was confident he wouldn't cause any waves, that was until I heard a few omegas gossiping around the coffee pot about a new hire. One that so happened to be a human.

With the way my temper had been I'm surprised I didn't kill the woman for speaking such disrespect, but I knew Jax was the one to confront. This human appeared to be mixing well with the others, but that didn't matter. One mishap, one unexplainable situation could start the hunters to reform.

Humans tried for centuries to safe guard themselves from the supernatural. Capturing, torturing, and experimenting on us as a means to find the best way to kill us. They were always too naive though. Never understood how strong we were or how many existed. Demetrius killed the last of the hunters years ago. As far as we know, there are none that exist anymore.

In order to keep our kind hidden we separated and kept off the radar. Magic shields most our activity from the humans, but if we intermingle too much then it would weaken that magic. Humans had a natural defense against magic that they weren't aware of. The stronger the magic the less it worked on them.

When Demetrius killed the last known hunter organization he ordered us all to stay separate. He had a powerful witch mate, Fraya, that cast blinder spells in pockets around the world to hid us from the human's curious minds. Having a business with over two hundred wolf employees, then mix that with humans, that would definitely piss off Demetrius.

"I heard an interesting story at the coffee pot this morning, Beta." My voice was low and threatening, but almost every word I spoke came out like that now.

Jax sat behind his sleek glass desk in a full grey suit. His blond hair was a little longer, his blue eyes a little darker, and his face with a five o'clock shadow. He still looked strong and handsome, but he was wearing thin on patience. It only irritated me more that my decision, or possible decision, effected him so much. I didn't need to be second guessed about everything I did. I was the Alpha, I should be obeyed.

"I don't have time for games Liam. Speak or leave me be to work." He barely lifted his head to address me. Maverick was growling in my head, but I had to keep it to myself. I had no idea who this human was or where they could be.

"I'd be careful with you're tone. I'm still the boss, even in this world." My hazel eyes were swirling black as I stared him down.

"Yes, it appears you are. What can I do for you, sir?" He leaned back in his chair staring back at me annoyed. He didn't like power plays, something I loved.

I cleared my throat then adjusted my black suit to sit in his god awful, ergonomically correct, black leather chair. Everything is this office was new age, sleek lines and modern. I hated it.

"Why are people gossiping about a human working here?" I cut straight to the point before I hurled him out the twenty story window. His office was the corner so two whole walls were ceiling to floor windows.

"That would be because there is one working here. I needed a human touch to acclimate us more into their world. Our people's businesses are failing because they can't keep up with big corporations. She is the best in her field and already saved three companies from going under, raised four companies profits by suggesting a more up to date product line, and she found a way for five companies to use other companies within our circle to help keep the money circling within our people. It is necessary to keep up with the ever changing world around us."

"Necessary? It was stupid and risky. What if something happens? What if Demetrius finds out? The hunters began because a few learned of our kind. Those few became many who then killed thousands over the years. This should had been discussed with me first."

"I gave you the proposal and you signed off on it. It's not my fault you don't read anything I give you."

Before he finished his last words a low growl slipped through my lips. He was manipulating me now? "You know I don't read all this paperwork crap you push towards me. I trusted you to handle all this. Fuck, Jax! This is out of line and you know it."

"It's one human that is being closely monitored. Any issues I will fire her or remove her memories. I promise it won't be an issue though."

"You promise? That's fucking rich!"

"I never broke a promise to you." This time his wolf was losing control. It was a button I shouldn't had pushed.

"I want this human removed today. No excuses or procrastinating. I have enough bullshit on my plate right now. Fuck! Sometimes I think you enjoy torturing me."

"Just as much as you enjoy torturing me." He leaned back over his desk to resume his work in front of him. He was dismissing me and Maverick I wanted to rip his head off.

I just grunted at his comment though. It did appear we tortured each other quite often, but it wasn't my choice. It was him taking away my choices, leaving me with the impossible.

"She is gone today. Understood!" I ordered.

"You'll met all the new hires at lunch today. Let me show you all she has done and then we can discuss it."
