Liam POV

I growled at both of them. I didn't want to harm my child, but it wouldn't be something that could live in this world. The second the Alpha Lycan found out, he would kill us all.

I also knew this baby would kill Riley. I didn't want to care, but a part of me didn't want to lose her.

"She will be dead in a few months and you will all regret this decision." I said to them.

"She won't die. She was meant to be here, with us." Jax yelled back to me.

Before I could respond Star turned sadly to Jax and knelt to the girl again. Her fingers brushed through her hair. "I'm sorry Jax, but it's impossible for a human to survive the birth of a supernatural. Too much magic will flow through her, and her body will give out. You should plan a c-section a few days before she is due to protect the child."

"No!" Jax shook his head looking to Riley. "She won't die. It was impossible for her to get pregnant, yet she is. She can handle it." He demanded, but the tremble in his voice I knew he didn't believe it.

"I'm sorry Jax. This is why we can't get too attached. I'm not even sure we should let this child be born." My hand rested to his shoulder, but he shook it off with all his anger.

"Fuck you, Liam. You never try for anything in this life. Shut your walls to us and be a coward. Just leave us be. I don't want anything to do with you or your pack. Take it all and fuck off!" He shouted, pulling Riley in his arms as he inhaled her scent. He was already lost to this woman and I couldn't take the heartbreak.

My wolf went rabid in my head that my mate chose some woman we've known a few weeks over me, his mate. "Have it your way. You will regret this!" I spit out and left them.

I needed to distance myself from the both of them. She would be dead in a few months and it was going to destroy Jax. I can't save him and I won't watch him fall apart over some human, maybe a hybrid.

I stormed down the streets pissed at the whole situation. First, I can't have my mate, now I can't have my child, and in the end I'll probably lose my best friend forever. I wasn't doing this! I needed to strength my pack and find purpose for Jax to stay before that thing was born.

I could take Lindsey as my Luna, but then Jax might leave. I needed to ease him into what was best for all of us. Most of all, I needed to figure it out before the Lycan Alpha came looking for my next heir. The one from Lindsey I wasn't planning on giving him.

If the Demetrius knew a human was pregnant with a pup I doubt he would let her take another breath. He hated hybrids and killed his own children because of it.

I arrived at my pack a few hours later to find Lindsey playing with many of the young children of our pack. Claire sat off to the side doing a puzzle, not engaging with any of the other kids.

"Alpha!" Lindsey rose from her knees and grabbed my hand. I wasn't sure how to react and suddenly became a statue.

She turned to the kids with a big smile. "Your Alpha came to visit, kids. What do you say?" She spoke sweetly to the frightened children. My presence was suffocating to them.

"Hi, Alpha." Their voices trickled out slowly.

Claire giggled in the corner at my awkwardness and I glared at her. She jumped from her chair and hugged my leg. I wiggled slightly, but she didn't let go. "I'm so happy to see you Alpha. Will you do a puzzle with me?" She looked up to me with pleading eyes and my chest felt tight. I never played with a child before.

"No! Lindsey do a puzzle with the brat." I picked Claire up by the arms and handed her over.

"Go play, Claire, and mind you manners." She set her down speaking in almost a scolding tone to the child. Claire lowered her head and walked back to her seat.
