Riley POV
"I see you spoken to Liam. Did he play nice." Jax smiled at me and all my anger disappeared.
He looked much better today, and sexy as hell in a black suit with a blue dress shirt. His eyes were like a clear sky just after it rains.
"Yes, but I left him wanting." I shot my head back in Liam's direction. His glare darkened as if he could actually hear me.
"I see. He seems to be quite angry. Maybe we should head to lunch to let him calm down some."
"I would love too, but I didn't get any work done. The dictator had me and Conner sifting through his paperwork all morning."
"Well, I'm sure your boss won't mind. At least one of them." He nodded to Liam and I swear he was ready to explode. It was impossible he could hear our conversation, but I swear his eyes turned just about black as Jax spoke.
I didn't care though. He was an ass all day, let him be in a bad mood. Maybe he won't treat everyone below him like ants to squish for fun.
"Ok, let's go!" My face lit up as I ran back to my desk to grab my purse.
We spent over two hours at a little Italian bodega eating sandwiches. Jax was definitely feeling better today and I was feeling more energetic because of it. Somehow his good mood heightened mine. This town was getting weirder every day I was here. No matter how bizarre I found any of it, I couldn't imagine myself anywhere else.
After lunch Jax asked me out to dinner again. I should say no. Not just because of Liam, but also because he was my boss. This was exactly what I didn't want in my life, yet here I was fucking one boss while flirting with the other.
"I would like that." Was my response though. I was obviously not a very smart person.

Jax POV
"You ready?" I asked standing over Riley's desk.
She popped her head up as if I just woke her from a deep sleep. This woman was so dedicated to her work and I loved it. Since her first day she worked tirelessly to help our clients pull in more profits so they didn't end up going bankrupt. I don't know why I gave her mostly pack business to handle. Something inside me just knew she was the one that could take care of their needs.
"Yeah! Sorry, I lost track of the time. I have this amazing idea for the little bakery in our town. God, I'm so excited I can't wait to talk to Susie about it." The smile on her face was infectious. Goddess, I loved that smile.
I gave her a little chuckle. "Well, I'm sure whatever it is Susie will love the idea." I took her raincoat from behind her chair and held it out for her to put on.
I felt Liam's eyes on us and it only excited me more to take her out. I wasn't playing a game with her, like Liam likes to do with woman. I genuinely liked her. It was just an extra bonus it pissed Liam off too.
The second her resume came across my desk I had this pull to her. I didn't understand what it was, but being a supernatural creature, I knew not to ignore such feelings. She was here for a reason and that reason wasn't for Liam's amusement.
We spent hours at the restaurant just talking. We already had lunch earlier and dinner last night together, yet it still didn't seem to be enough time with her.
I noticed something about her scent too. The cherry blossom and wine was mixed with something even more delicious. I couldn't place it, but I craved it. I shouldn't be encouraging a relationship with her, yet my body wanted nothing else, and my wolf wanted something much more intimate with her.
