Riley POV

"I'm the mother of the woman that spelled your mate, and I want your protection before lifting this curse. A blood vow or he stays asleep forever." The smile that crept on the old woman's face was pure evil, just like her blackened soul.

She was definitely related to Mildred, the resemblance was clear and I knew her scent. I looked to Jax, then to Liam. He wasn't convinced and neither was I. She could break the curse, but at what price?

"Agreed!" I stepped towards the woman and Liam grabbed my arm.

"Are you insane! You don't even know what vow she is asking for."

"I don't care. She wakes him or I kill her. I prefer to come to an agreement and see our mate again, but one way or another her blood will be shed." My eyes heated as I let my Lycan come forward. I didn't want to hurt Liam and he knew that too. He also knew I would do whatever it took to get Jax back.

"What are you terms?" Liam said with a clenched jaw. He didn't like this, but he knew I wasn't backing down.

"I want protection."

"You can take a vow with myself then." Liam stepped in front of me. My stupid hero!

"I'd prefer to have a Lycan than a Alpha watching over me, no offense." The twisted hag said, amused with her dig at his over inflated ego.

"What are you afraid of? What is after you?" Liam asked, trying to hid his annoyance. I felt his jealousy every so often that I was more powerful than him. I made a point to rub it in his face any chance I got too. I was his mate, but I was also his Queen.

"Nothing either of you can't handle."

"If all we have to do is protect an old hag, it's more than worth it to see Jax open his eyes again."

"It's seems too easy, Riley. Don't forget this is Mildred's mother. She is a powerful witch, one shunned from her coven for being as sick and conniving as her daughter." Liam's words made sense, but I didn't care if she had set fire to a hundred orphanages. She would live so Jax could live. He saved thousands along side me and I saw it as even trade. I would protect this hag, but that didn't mean she would be free to harm anyone anymore.

"I know who she is and it's worth it. Just like saving everyone was worth Jax taking this curse." I held my hand to her. "Speak the vow you ask of me and cement it in blood, but be careful." I warned her. A Lycan was not one to annoy or try to manipulate. We are known to have bad tempers.

The hag smiled like a Cheshire Cat at me. Her words better be true, without manipulation, or I'll rip her spine out her back.

"Vow your protection of my life with yours at any cost. Bind my soul to your Lycan, giving me health and life as long as you live."

"I vow your protection with my life at any cost. I will bind my Lycan to your..."

"No! Riley!" Liam growled at me. "She will live as long as you do. She won't die unless you die."

"If she dies will I?" I asked Liam.

"Only if you allow her death."

"So if she runs off to kill innocent people and an Alpha kills her before I can reach her, will I die?"

"Uh... no, you wouldn't, but..."

"Then what is the problem?" I glared at Liam. I understood she was binding herself to my life force, but she wasn't taking it. She wants to live four hundred years then fine, she will live and so will Jax, but she won't be causing any trouble.

"Vow your protection and nothing else." Liam demanded.

"No deal. I'm at the end of my life. Why should I help you just to get a few years of achy bones? I want the life I deserved to have."
