Liam POV

It was amusing watching Riley try to ignore the man's comments while also pitching ideas to help his business. Alpha Danny was a brute and didn't hide it.

He, of course, wasn't nearly as rough as he normally is simply because I was there. He wasn't sure if I was protecting this human girl or not, but everyone was careful not to piss off Demetrius. Alerting a human to our ways was the best way to get your head taken off.

"So, let me get this straight." Danny adjusted his body in his seat. "You think my business is a failure and I need to stop making handcrafted works of art from these very trees surrounding us, and start making piece of crap furniture that would break just from touching it, or I'll lose everything?"

Oh, he was about to explode. Riley actually presented herself very well and avoided any harsh comments about his truly failing business, but Alpha Danny has been told this same story for years.

"No sir, that's not what I'm saying. You can still make anything you chose. I'm suggesting to add some other, more popular pieces. Maybe start making furniture on demand instead of stocking so much inventory."

"I heard enough. I have other business to attend to. I certainly won't be changing my livelihood simply because you think I need the money. Look around sweetheart. I have plenty. Liam could you adjourn this meeting?" He looked to me for permissions and I loved it.

Although we were on his property I was the stronger Alpha. Another person that understood respect, unlike my fucking Beta.

"Of course, Danny. It was a pleasure seeing you. Oh, and I need a new desk delivered to my house. I broke my last one."

He let out a big hardy laugh. "We just replaced the last desk you broke Liam, but I'll have it to you by tomorrow. My boy Tommy has a meeting with Lindsey to discuss some old contracts. I hear she is working out despite the ultimatum Demetrius gave you."

I guess all the packs heard what happened by now. "Yeah, she is ok. We see how it turns out. As long as she does what she is told I don't really care either way."

"Well, a good woman knows her place." Danny gave me a smile, but I didn't return it this time. I didn't miss Riley's scoff next to me either.

"Let's go." I pulled her up and headed towards the car.

This was enough chit chat for a lifetime. I don't think I ever engaged in a conversation this long before, or at least not with it ending by me biting their heads off. Jax was the diplomat, I was the enforcer.

"Do you really believe all that crap he spewed back there?" We just got in the car to head back to the office and I knew it was going to be an earful about how chauvinistic men can be. I really didn't care, I just wanted to take her body to relieve my frustration.

"Does it matter?" My finger lingered on her thigh.

"Liam! I'm serious, this isn't appropriate." She moved my hand away, not allowing me to even lightly touch her. I gave her a smirk then nodded. I may press the boundaries, but if a woman says no, then it's no. I wasn't worried, she will cave to me.

———

We got back to the office and who was in my office wearing a hole in my floors? Jax!

"What the fuck are you doing?" He yelled the second I walked in.

I turned to Riley before addressing the asshole in front of me. "Today was a complete waste of everyone's time. Four days left to prove yourself, sweetheart. You can go!" I moved her body out of my door frame, then closed the door in her face. She opened her mouth to speak, but she wasn't fast enough.
