Brandon POV
We spent the last three days running around Danny's pack getting as much prepared as we could. Any too weak to fight we're sent away to an ally pack far away. Those capable and willing to take on a freakin Lycan remained with me as their leader.
"This is too much." I sighed, watching our warriors practice battle formations on the training grounds.
"Let's pray this is only practice. If Jeremiah kills Demetrius there will be no war." Barry stood beside me watching intently how everyone moved. He was so sexy when he was in training mode. Even when he got a bit aggressive with the teenagers, pushing them to move faster and strike harder, he was sexy.
"It feels too easy. Everything feels off."
"No! Move like that and you're the first to die!" He shouted at a boy. He looked to be sixteen and obviously hadn't been taught anything about swords. We figured our best chance to win would be to overwhelm them and go for a kill. A Lycan's body is strong, almost impenetrable. A swift hit with a sword to the neck would do the job though.
"I'm sorry. I'm trying." The boy's voice shook a bit speaking to Barry. I remembered who he was. The day Liam and Jax found Danny's pack murdered he was the one left in charge. Jax said he was shaking like a leaf, but believed there was potential in him. He was strong inside. Right now, the boy was falling apart though. His whole pack was.
"What is your name?" I asked the scared boy and Barry gave me a sharp look. "You don't want to piss me off, Lover. You'll be sleeping on the hard floor all night by yourself." I warned him.
"They need to be ready." Barry tried arguing, but softened his voice to me.
"Go harass that boy. He just dropped his sword." I pointed to some kid that was showing off. He had been bullying kids all morning, Barry can show him what a bully is really like.
Barry grunted in annoyance and walked away to yell at the rest of the kids. That's what we had here, kids. Demetrius killed just about every male over twenty five and female over thirty five. He wanted strong warriors and capable breeders. To him that is all werewolves were good for.
"Name?" I asked the boy again once Barry was gone.
"Dylan. I'm a Beta but... I can't fight."
"It's ok. A Beta?" I raised my eyebrows at him. He was only a kid. He had a strong wolf though. "Beta Jax told me how you held everyone together here."
"I didn't do anything really. I was terrified and just watched my family and friends get killed."
My hand rested to his shoulder. "You were unprepared and defenseless. We want you to be ready if your pack is attacked again. Tomorrow Alpha Liam's remaining warriors will be here for support too. Together we stand a chance, but we need to prepare."
"We will be slaughtered with or without Alpha Liam's men."
"We don't know that and I have plan to retreat if it gets too sticky."
The boy looked at me with nothing but fear in his eyes. I didn't know how to do this, or what to say.
"Hey brother!" Sophia knocked into my shoulder than gave me a kiss on the cheek.
"Hey sister! What are you doing here?"
"Practicing. Barry trained all of us for years. Just in case I was... you know."
"Are you good with a sword?"
"I actually am pretty damn good."
"Great! Help Dylan. He is like sixteen and never held one before."
