Jax POV
I took my beautiful woman's hand and led her back to our bedroom. It was early in the morning now, but I knew she needed to rest more. I did too. I was truly afraid of what Liam would do. He had closed himself off to us before, but this was different.
I saw how he immediately wrote us off. I can't imagine the pain he feels knowing that we weren't fated, or that everything in his life was poisoned because he had Riley's Lycan attached to Maverick. I didn't even know how that worked.
I laid with Riley until I comforted her back to sleep. Liam was right that she runs herself dry too much. I could feel herself getting weaker everyday.
I slowly moved out of bed, kissing her forehead, then got changed. Just a tshirt and jeans as I had no intentions of going to the office anytime soon.
I knocked on the office door feeling my nerves jumping inside me. I needed to talk to him, and I prayed he calmed down by now.
"Come in." Liam said with a rough grunt.
"Can we talk?" I eyed Lindsey sitting in front of Liam's desk. He nodded for her to leave and I stood in front of the chair. Once the door was closed I relaxed some. I didn't like how he fell right back to that woman.
Liam looked like he aged ten years the past hour. His hair was silky black with these mysterious green eyes. His body as gorgeous as ever, but tense and guarded.
"What do you want, Jax?" He said after I stood there silently for a moment.
"I don't care if you're truly my fated or not. You know it changes nothing."
"Doesn't it though? Once Riley takes her wolf back there will be no pull between us. You only tolerate me because of that pull and we both know it." He spoke monotone as he kept reading over papers on his desk. He perfected blocking out all his emotions years ago.
"I don't tolerate you, Liam." My hands rested on the desk to lean towards his face. "You know I love you. It's more than being fated, it's more than a pull. We have a real chance now."
He clenched his jaw as I spoke, but I saw he wasn't letting up. He was too afraid to give in and lose us. Not just by Demetrius now, but by fate. His eyes met mine and he spoke to me like an Alpha telling his Beta what was to happen next. No room for disagreement or disobedience in his tone. I was just his second in command and nothing else.
"We have a slim chance, one I'm not completely committed to either. Let Jeremiah finish his spells and we see if he can beat his brother. After that, we can reevaluate. For now, I need a more concert plan than telling Demetrius to fuck off. Claire will leave with the witch, tonight I will mark Lindsey, if Jeremiah fails and I have a daughter, then I will hide her from Demetrius."
I stood up straight with my hands behind my back. We are just an Alpha and Beta talking strategy. Liam wouldn't allow emotions to be attached to anything we said to each other. "Riley is pregnant with your daughter now. What about her, your child, and her wolf. What's the grand plan there." I held back my voice from cracking because I knew what he said next would push me too far.
"As it stands Riley won't survive childbirth. Maybe that is a blessing for her. We will work with Star, Freya, and Mildred to try and get her through it, but in the end, I don't feel she will come out ok. Knowing everything I do now, it honestly would be better for her.
My daughter will be claimed as dead then sent away. I don't care if we need to spell her to sleep hundreds of years so she wakes once Demetrius is dead. As far as Riley's Lycan that lives inside my wolf or whatever weird shit her father did, it is staying right where it is. I'm more powerful than she will ever be. I can protect my pack and children better than Riley can."
