Riley POV
"Is everything ok?" I asked sheepishly. I didn't want to cower down to this man, but his presence demanded it.
"Fine! Why are you giving my employees treats Ms. Parker?" His voice was all commanding to obey his every request.
"I just wanted to say... thank you! For being so helpful." My eyebrows furrowed and then my courage came back with vengeance. What the fuck is wrong me lately?
"Is there a problem with me saying thank you, or for Brandon doing his job. A job I believe you instructed him to do. Sir!" I added the sir, but my annoyed tone and arms crossed tightly around my chest showed I didn't approve of this conversation.
Brandon's eyes shot wide open in surprise. I could tell he was searching for a way to save me from being yelled at by his boss. My eyes darted from Brandon back to Jax who slid a devilish smile across his face.
"No problem, Ms. Parker. You are correct, I instructed Brandon to help you and I'm happy to see he has done an excellent job at that. I've been a little off lately and apologize if I came off rude. We had issues in the past when employees of mine who... got together." He moved his hands on top of each other to insinuate sexual relations, but quickly blushed seeing my face turn even more pissed.
"Well there is no... getting together between Brandon and I." My hand imitated his movements but my body language was all scorned woman. "And I would appreciate it if you were more respectful to me in the future. Just because I'm a woman it doesn't mean I'm sleeping with every male I encounter and even if I did it would be none of your business. Is this going to be an issue in the future, sir? I would rather cut my loses now then to start a life here that you are only going to demoralize." My hands came to my hips and I patiently waited from both men to pick their mouths up from the floor.
I was not going to allow any misunderstanding to happen between myself and my boss again. Even if it meant I lost this job then at least I would have my dignity in tact. Shit! My dad is going to be pissed if we have to move back to New York when we just got everything settle to move here.
"No, no, Ms. Parker." Jax's body relaxed and his anger all disappeared. Whatever was bothering him before he seemed to realize he can't take it out on me and I was grateful he easily changed his tune. "I apologize again and I promise I will not pry into your personal life. This was all a big misunderstanding. I have a lot work left to do and a big weekend ahead of me. Please enjoy the next few days off and I look forward to seeing you Monday morning." He gave me a small nod of his head then turned to leave.
He stopped for a brief moment looking deep into Brandon eyes almost as if they were communicating, but before I could say anything he continued on his way out the door.
"That was weird." I blurted out loud.
"Don't mind him. He is a fair and reliable boss 99% of the time. He runs a lot of different organization and this week took a pretty big toll on him. Now my treat?" Brandon closed his eyes and held out his hand.
I couldn't help but giggle at his playfulness. He was the most organized person I ever met, but also the most carefree and spontaneous one. He seemed to have an endless amount of energy too.
I placed one of the bags in his hand. "I visited the little bakery you recommend and it was delicious. I remembered you said the turkey sandwich and blueberry scone was your favorite and got you some to say thank you. You have single handedly made my life a hundred times easier and I truly appreciate all your help. I hope, despite Jax's concern, we could be friends."
I let out a long breath watching Brandon's face trying to read his expression. I didn't mean to get so mushy on him, but once I started speaking I just couldn't stop.
