Jax POV
"Where are we, Liam?" I looked over the little apothecary shop annoyed. He wasn't going to torture Riley with magics. I knew in my soul she was pregnant and that it was our child.
From the second I read her name on her resume I felt a connection to her. She was something special, and she belonged with us. I can't understand how Liam constantly ignored that.
"An old friend's. Calm your wolf, Jax." He warned me.
Riley nervously shook by my side the entire time. She barely spoke and when she did, it was just pleads to let her go home. I wanted to see that confident woman I knew her to be, but I also understood she was teetering on losing her mind right now.
The best I could do was show her that she would have a good life here, eventually. She just needed to adjust to her new life and see she belonged here with me and Liam.
I also needed Liam to stop being an asshole. He always pushed people away, especially when they tried getting close to him. Even myself, I rarely saw him let his walls down around me. He figured his life would be crap one way or the other and it was just easier to keep everyone at a distance.
His wolf was also a homicidal manic that already hurt a handful of our pack. Despite their disobedience I knew it still tore at his soul that he brutally killed our own.
Liam had potential to be one the greatest Alpha's, but he let his insecurities get in the way. He didn't even try to have a life he wanted either. Some days I didn't know why I fought so hard for him when he didn't fight for himself.
"My little wolf pup!" Star emerged from the purple curtains with arms wide to Liam.
"And the loyal Beta." She gave me a big hug.
I enjoyed Star's company and so did Liam, even if he wouldn't admit it. She was like a mother to us, or more like an awesome Aunt that always understood.
"Who is this little thing." Star's eyes fixated on Riley and her hands went straight to her stomach. "The human carrying a pup! This can't be possible." She looked strangely over Riley.
She shifted uncomfortably and my hand went to her back to offer comfort. I could only imagine what was going through Riley's head the past few days.
"Hi, my name is Riley. Liam brought me here for an exam, but I really would like to just go home. Please help me!" She pleaded to the woman. I wanted to break watching how weak she looked. I didn't blame her though, it was an immense amount of information to take in.
"I'm sorry, but you are safest here." Star tucked a piece of her hair behind her ear and Riley began crying.
Liam was fuming watching Riley shake like a leaf. "I can't take this! What happened to the fierce woman that told me to fuck off." He growled at Riley, making her jump closer to me.
"Enough Liam! We are lucky she hasn't completely lost her mind. Have some compassion for the mother of your child."
"Compassion? All she does is cry and beg to go home. She is weak." He scuffed, walking to take a seat at one of the tables.
"Liam is the father? How?" Star looked wide eye to me.
"He likes to pray on humans since his mate is disgusted with him. Somehow he got this one pregnant." I said annoyed at Liam constantly acting like a five year old.
A growl ripped from Liam as he flipped the table.
Star's eyes glowed white as Liam whined in pain. "Don't make me lock you away Maverick." She warned his wolf and I smiled. She always knew how to put him in his place. Goddess, I wish I could do that.
