Liam POV

I ended up missing my flight from Chicago to Seattle, but the delay allowed me to dodge my mate a few days, so I was happy about that. If I could just get that sexy nympho out of my head I would be on cloud fucking nine.

"Alpha you have several pack members waiting to speak to you. Will you be seeing anyone today?" My delta asked me. He remained at my doorway, standing a good twenty feet from me with his hands wound tightly behind his back. He knew of my strength as well as my unstable mood since returning, he was quivering in fear.

I didn't mean to exert so much power but it naturally rolled off me. You would think after all these years of being their Alpha they would realize I don't just randomly attack my pack members, at least not anymore. Their wolf was too intimidated by mine that it made them cower in fear and submission to me.

"Yes, I will see them. Thank you Conner, you can go now." I waved him away annoyed how he desperately needed to get out of my office. Was my presence really that suffocating?

"Good morning Alpha. I would like to request an extension of my goods this month." Alfred spoke with a shaky voice. He was an older gentleman with white hair and frail body. Even though he was well in his 70's he could still take on ten humans, but compared to other werewolves, he was weak and old.

"What's your reasoning for this request? You are aware our town needs food to survive."

Alfred was the head of his family and they hunted fresh meat for our pack.

"Of course Alpha. I apologize for failing our town. My daughter has found her mate and my son accepted a position with Beta Jax in the human city. I can't hunt as well as I use to on my own. Last night a bear got the best of me and our doctor said it would be at least a week before I should go back out. I'm sure I will heal faster and can continue to resume my duties in a few days, but if possible..."

"Show me your wound." I demanded. He was rattling on and on.

He looked at me confused then slowly lifted his shirt. He too stood at my doorway hoping to escape my presence quickly. I stood up and approached the old man.

"Relax Alfred. I'm not going to hurt you."

"Sorry Alpha. I know you're a fair man, but my wolf wants me to not bother you with such trivial things. We want to be strong for our Alpha. I'm sorry we are such a disappointment." The old man bowed his head.

I checked his wound then walked back to my chair. "I'm not disappointed in you and neither is our pack. Go home and rest. You are relieved for the next two weeks from hunting." I jotted down a note to find a new hunter who might need to permanently take over this position.

"Two weeks? No, Alpha please I can still hunt. I just need a few days that's all."

"This isn't a debate, Alfred. Two weeks and not a minute sooner. Understood!" I didn't mean to growl but my wolf didn't accept any form of defiance.

"Yes, sorry Alpha. Thank you!" He stumbled over his words then quickly left my office.

The next couple of days I started my morning out with the same meek wolves asking permission for something or another. They were all omegas, one of the weakness of our kind. Below them were Zetas and Hybrids, but they were rare breeds.

Everyone would rather deal with my Beta, but the last few years he has been away making a living in the human city. He needed the separation from our pack and he deserved to pursue his own interest.

Jax was born to an omega father and Beta mother, but when he turned for the first time his wolf was all Alpha. It was rare for someone of lower rank heritage to emerge to Alpha. I knew it was because he was a true leader though.
