Jax POV
I spent the last month following Riley's every order and I did it with pride. She didn't realize it, but she was awakening into her true Luna position. I explained the hierarchy and so much more to her already. I hoped it would click what she was meant to be to our pack, but she seemed mostly concentrated on protecting our son.
In a few weeks we will merge our spirits and my wolf will split into two, creating a new wolf for her to possess. I was confident that when she became a full werewolf she would understand her true self, so I didn't push it. Instead, I eased her into the idea with little nudges.
Liam was a miserable dick around us and constantly growling at our pack. Everyone feared him, but they also respected him as well as his power.
Growing up in the supernatural world we all understood the overwhelming power we held. We also understood that Liam had much more than any of us to keep in check. We wanted his strength, but also feared it.
Riley was feigning for his touch, as was I, but she reminded herself he needed to grow up first. She gave him some understanding because he did separate himself from his wolf years ago, but she still thought he needed to take a more concrete position to be a true Alpha. She was tough on him and I loved how her sweet mouth put him in his place.
Liam was bursting at the seems for both a lover and to put us below him. He loved our power over him, but like our pack did with him, he feared the strength we held over him.
I was sure he planned to make Lindsey Luna if Riley died. He kept putting her in my face and complementing how the pack liked her in charge.
Our pack also loved Riley too, but right now, we needed to focus on keeping her alive. In time, Riley will take her rightful place and Liam will realize how stupid it was to think Lindsey could ever hold a candle to her.
I had to admit that it was easier letting Lindsey run things for now though. Not everything, but she helped tremendously so we could focus on other things.
We seemed to have some wolves causing a ruckus in our pack too. I wasn't sure if it was little pranks or a traitor. Lindsey had convinced Liam to put up surveillance cameras and I was impressed. I had been trying for years to get him to do that.
It was an odd situation we were all in, but one that worked for now. I didn't want to anger Maverick or for Liam to completely lose Riley. My love was unwavering for him, but hers was temperamental. She seemed to equally hate him as much as she wanted him. There was definitely no love between them.
The past month I had my mate by my side. She accompanied me to work three days a week to help our pack and allies. At night she was in my bed with an insatiable need I craved to satisfy. We were a team and she was a goddess carrying our child.
This was the closest to feeling complete I ever felt in my life. I longed for Liam too, but I learned years ago to be patient with him. He was mine and he wouldn't truly betray me. That didn't mean I didn't like torturing him though.
We had a small work event to celebrate opening another office that would give more opportunities to our less profitable packs. It was hard convincing them to get up with the times to survive in the human world.
Riley had a natural business sense about her though. She was able to work out connections we needed and talked old fashion packs into slowly adjusting to the new world. A world that was ran by humans, which most werewolves believed were below us. Humans outnumbered us greatly and there is strength in numbers.
My eyes watched my sexy woman in a dark blue dress sporting a large baby bump. Our son was growing faster than expected and the doctor feared he may arrive sooner than we thought.
