Jax POV
We arrived home after dinner and the second we walked in the door Liam's arm were around me. The pack house was silent and I assumed he sent them all away.
"What happened?" I asked with a hard breath. He was more rattled than I thought he would be.
Liam pulled out of my arms and leaned his head to mine. "Nothing!" He chuckled and stepped back.
"Nothing?" Riley said. "That can't be. I could feel his presence was coming and it would be devastating."
Liam gave her a small smile then pulled her close to him. "He had a hundred sick ideas and I know I'm included in half of them, but today he didn't ask anything of me."
"What of Lindsey?" I wanted to know what he agreed too. Liam turned Riley so her back was to his front and his hands roamed over her stomach. I knew how calming it was to feel her carrying our child.
"I told him I would mark her on the silver moon. We have to kill her before then." Liam said in all seriousness.
Shock doesn't properly explain what those words did to me. "What?"
"It's the only solution I can think of. He won't let me deny him. If she is killed then there is no Alpha female to mark. It will buy us some time."
"You want to just kill her?" Riley said disgusted. "No! What is wrong with you? You can't take another's life to save yours." She looked him dead in the eye with pure anger and Liam completely melted to her. I never seen his eyes so soft to another. Whatever happened with Demetrius today scared him to the bone.
His finger brushed the hair from her face as his eyes watched over her like she was everything. I smiled, knowing he was giving into us. Riley will be his undoing and I will finally have them both.
"It's not to save me, gorgeous. It's to save my family, you, Jax, our baby. We need more time and we need a plan to rid Demetrius from all our lives." Liam looked to me. "I think he wants to start a war with the humans too. Not now, but at some point in his reign. He said he wants my pack to be more about brute strength and less about human businesses. He wants me to take over strong packs."
"Take over?" My heart was skipping a few beats at those words. We can't go to war. We have lived in peace for hundreds of years among our packs. "We can't, Liam."
"I know. I don't see how we can stop him, but I know we need to try. I can't lose either of you though." His head rested on Riley's shoulder and he just held her. "We need to give into Demetrius, or we need to find a real way to break him. There is no other options."
"I want to break him." Riley said confidently and it made us both chuckle.
"You're tired, gorgeous. I can feel your exhaustion. Are you ok?" Liam asked her and she looked to him surprisingly. He was being sweet, something Riley rarely saw from him. I knew he could be perfect though.
"I am. I know I still have two more months until I'm full term, but I feel more and more drained everyday."
"It could be his magic building inside you. Let's go to bed." Liam lifted her in his arms and she giggled at the sudden movement. I walked next to Liam and my hand grabbed his face to give him a deep appreciative kiss. She needed this from him.
"Stay with us tonight?" I pleaded to him.
"I don't think you could make me leave you, not tonight." He said and walked to my bedroom.
He gently laid her down and slowly undressed her. He took his time savoring each piece of flesh revealed to him and I knew he was bursting at the seams to take her. I threw pajamas on the bed and began undressing myself.
